An auxiliary power control system for enabling a software command that a management controller sends to the power supply to shut down auxiliary power. Such a power control system enables an AC cycle without needing to physically remove an AC power cord and provides additional power savings when a system is not in use. In certain embodiments, the auxiliary power control system includes a paradigm of a main power state, an auxiliary power state and a sub-auxiliary state. In this system many of the power states and wake vents apply to the auxiliary power state in addition to the main power state.

A method for managing the power of a chassis includes receiving a plurality of modular information handling systems into the chassis, receiving a plurality of information handling resources into the chassis, virtualizing access of one of the modular information handling resources to two or more of the plurality of modular information handling systems, the modular information handling systems sharing the modular information handling resource, and, upon initialization of one of the information handling systems, determining power requirements of the shared information handling resource, receiving power requirements from the information handling systems, determining whether the power requirements from the information handling system includes power requirements of the shared information handling resource, subtracting the power requirements of the shared information handling resource from the power requirements of the information handling system to determine resultant power requirements, comparing the resultant power requirements with available power, and allowing operation of the information handling system.

An information handling system includes a cable, a backplane, and a processor. The cable is connected to a storage controller of the information handling system. The backplane is configured to connect a drive to the information handling system. The processor is in communication with the cable and with the backplane. The processor is configured to detect a presence of the drive, to output a pulse in response to the detection of the presence of the drive, to determine a first storage technology of the drive in response to the output pulse, to determine a second storage technology of the storage controller, to determine whether there is a misconfiguration between the first storage technology and the second storage technology, and to generate a notification when the misconfiguration is determined.

A system and method of modifying power use within an information handling system is disclosed. In one form, a method of managing power within an information handling system is disclosed. The method can include establishing a threshold power level of a first information handling system, and detecting a first power demand of a first operating state in excess of the threshold power level. The method can also include detecting a request to invoke a first forced reduced power state of the first information handling system, and determining a first alternative power state different from the threshold power level and the first forced reduced power state. The method can further include initiating the first alternative power state.

System and methods for improving connections to an information handling system are disclosed. An enhanced serial attached small computer system interface for an information handling system includes a receptacle which is connectable to an information handling system and a connector which is connectable to the receptacle. The connector comprises a first set of signal pins positioned on a first planar surface of the connector and a second set of signal pins positioned on a second planar surface of the connector. The second planar surface is not co-planar with the first planar surface. The connector further includes a third set of signal pins positioned on a third planar surface of the connector and the third planar surface is not co-planar with the first planar surface and the second planar surface.

System and methods for controlling power delivery to system components are disclosed. A controller is communicatively coupled to a point-of-load converter through a first communication path and a shared memory is communicatively coupled to the point-of-load converter through a second communication path. A third communication path communicatively couples the controller and the shared memory. Control data is communicated from the controller to the point-of-load converter through the first communication path and measurement data is written from the point-of-load converter to the shared memory through the second communication path. The controller is operable to read the measurement data from the shared memory through the third communication path.

An interposer module may be used between a unified architecture blade compute module and a mid-plane of a present technology blade compute module system. The interposer module may contain input-output controllers for desired input-output fabrics. The mid-plane couples these input-output controllers to associated input-output fabric switches. The same unified architecture blade compute module may also be used without the interposer module in a new technology blade compute module system having multi-context fabric input-output controllers. The multi-context fabric input-output controllers may be coupled to the unified architecture blade compute modules of the information handling system by a switch such as a PCI Express (PCIe) switch.

A cost optimized redundant power supply consists of a plurality of power units (PUs) wherein each PU has two AC front ends. Each of the two AC front ends receive power from separate AC power sources, and each produce an isolated DC output. The isolated DC outputs from the two AC front ends are coupled to an input of one DC back end, e.g., DC-to-DC converter. Optimally, each of the AC front ends may have a power capacity of TRP/(N+1) and the DC back end may have a power capacity of TRP/N, where TRP=Total Redundant Power or the maximum system power required for operation and N is the number of PUs of the power supply.
