A wireless communications device can be triggered by a user in a duress situation to provide to a predetermined recipient, or to a monitoring service, a duress message containing emergency-response information, such as GPS coordinates, a photograph and/or an audio clip to facilitate an emergency response to the duress situation. The wireless device can periodically send follow-up duress messages to provide updated GPS data, photos or other information. The wireless device monitoring can also reply to specific queries from the monitoring service to provide requested information that would be most useful to the recipient attempting to coordinate an emergency response. In the event that the device is outside data packet coverage, the duress message can be transmitted using an alternate mode of communication such as SMS or MMS. If no mode of communication is available, the device stores the duress message until communications are possible.

Enhanced handling of duress situations

A system and methods for coordinating the operation of a client security module and a host security module on a mobile electronic device. The modules communicate with each other through a platform abstraction layer using application programming interfaces to coordinate their activities. An apparatus for provisioning a data communications client on a host communications device, the host communications device adapted to operate on a communications network, the apparatus comprising: a first data store adapted to store variant configuration information; a second data store adapted to store provisioning information; a provisioning module adapted to select the provisioning information stored in said second data store as a function of the variant configuration information stored in said first data store and apply the selected provisioning information to provision the data communications client; and a user interface interacting with said provisioning module to enable a user of the host communications device to provision the data communications client.

Method and apparatus for provisioning a communications client on a host device

A system and method for allowing a licensee having mobile station hardware to support its own set of carriers and software demands of these carriers, the software including licensor software, the method comprising the steps of: assigning a unique third party identifier to the licensee; assigning a range of carrier identifiers for the licensee; allowing the licensee to create a unique identifier by combining the unique third party identifier with an identifier chosen from the range of carrier identifiers; and associating, in a gateway program, the unique identifier with one or more software versions acceptable by a carrier for download onto the mobile station hardware.
