Techniques are provided for mounting simulated muntin bars, preassembled muntin grids and the like between parallel glazing sheets in an integrated multipane window sash. Among the mounting techniques disclosed are clips for holding simulated muntin components to a spacing and mounting structure of an integrated multipane window sash. All or portions of the clips can be desiccated.

Grid muntin retaining clips for muntins

Techniques are provided for mounting simulated muntin bars, preassembled muntin grids and the like between parallel glazing sheets in an integrated multipane window sash. Among the mounting techniques disclosed are clips for holding simulated muntin components to a spacing and mounting structure of an integrated multipane window sash. Clip-less embodiments are also presented, as well as a one-piece sash that includes integral muntins and an integral spacing and mounting structure for the glazing sheets.

Clip and sash assembly for mounting components between glazing panes

A window sash frame has a glazing insert receiving channel. A glazing insert provides a spacing structure for at least two glazing panes. The spacing structure has at least two glazing surfaces adapted to protrude into a viewing opening of the sash frame and hold a respective one of the glazing panes. The glazing insert includes a base for receipt in the receiving channel of the sash frame. The base extends away from the glazing surfaces such that the glazing panes will be isolated from the sash frame when the base is received in the channel and the glazing panes are mounted on the glazing surfaces.

Window sash, glazing insert, and method for manufacturing windows therefrom

A sash frame is provided having a first mounting surface for a first glazing pane and a second mounting surface for mounting a second glazing pane substantially parallel to the first glazing pane. The first and second mounting surfaces are spaced apart to provide an insulating space between the glazing panes. An evacuation opening is provided in communication with the insulating space. The first glazing pane is adhesively mounted to the first mounting surface and the second glazing pane is adhesively mounted to the second mounting surface. Air is allowed to exhaust through the evacuation opening as the insulating space is formed between the glazing panes. A vacuum is drawn from the evacuation opening to draw the first and second glazing panes closer together after the panes have been mounted on their respective mounting surfaces. Mounting of the glazing panes may also be facilitated using a roll press.

Assembly of insulating glass structures on an integrated sash

A window sash frame is provided with a glazing pane installation opening accessible from a first side thereof and a glazing pane support surface on a second side thereof. A first glazing pane is inserted into the installation opening and an outside surface perimeter of the pane is placed adjacent to the support surface. A second glazing pane is then inserted into the opening. An inside surface perimeter of the second pane is mounted (e.g., via an adhesive bead, strip, tape or foam) to an inside surface perimeter of the first glazing pane. The adhesive thickness is such that the panes are separated by a space, which can contain air or an inert insulating gas. A glazing bead is installed along at least a portion of the glazing pane installation opening after the glazing panes have been inserted. A spacer can alternatively or additionally be provided between the glazing panes.

Method for fabricating an integrated multipane window sash

A multipane window unit is provided in which a sash frame is formed having an integral spacing structure upon which glazing panes are directly affixed. The spacing structure is formed integrally with the sash frame at internal glazing surfaces. Adhesive can be affixed to the internal glazing surfaces to attach the glazing panes. In this manner, a rigid, structural sash frame can be formed prior to attachment of the glazing panes, thereby eliminating the need for using separately manufactured insulating glass units while obtaining similar and improved benefits.

Integrated multipane window unit and sash assembly and method for manufacturing the same

An integrated multipane window sash is fabricated from a sash frame having an inside perimeter. An adhesive material is applied to the inside perimeter. The adhesive material has sufficient stiffness to function as a mounting structure for glazing panes, and may also function as a spacing structure. A first glazing pane is mounted to a first side of the adhesive mounting structure. A second glazing pane is mounted to a second side of the adhesive mounting structure or to a separate adhesive mounting structure. The adhesive mounting structure can be applied by co-extrusion with the sash profile, by post-extrusion, manually or automatically and can comprise, for example, at least one of a bead of adhesive, a preformed adhesive foam, a preformed adhesive tape, or a chemical sealant. The adhesive mounting structure can be combined with a desiccant.
