A radome-reflector assembly includes a generally domed reflector having a peripheral rim and a radome assembly. The radome assembly includes: an annular ring having a front wall and a side wall: a disk that fits within the ring: and an RF-compliant absorber, wherein the rim of the reflector fits within the side wall. The radome assembly further comprises a clip that engages the rim and the ring to secure the reflector to the radome assembly.

Antenna cover and methods of retention

In one embodiment, a radome-reflector assembly for, e.g., a microwave antenna, has (i) two semi-circular rims that receive the peripheries of the radome and the reflector and (ii) fixed and adjustable clamps that secure the ends of the rims together. The rims are designed with slanted inner surfaces that engage the periphery of the reflector, such that, when the adjustable clamp is tightened circumferentially, the periphery of the reflector is forced laterally to abut other rim structure to form a metal-to-metal RF seal between the reflector and the rims. Certain assemblies with low profiles and low circumferential forces can be assembled without special tooling using plastic clamps and still achieve good RF seals.

Radome-reflector assembly mechanism

A radome for an antenna is provided as a composite of an isotropic outer layer and a structural layer of foamed polymer material. The composite is dimensioned to enclose an open end of the antenna. The radome may be retained upon the antenna by a retaining element and fasteners. The outer layer may be a polymer material with a water resistant characteristic. The structural layer may project inward and/or outward with respect to a plane of the seating surface of the radome.

Broad band radome for microwave antenna

A dielectric cone radiator sub-reflector assembly for a reflector antenna with a waveguide supported sub-reflector is provided as a unitary dielectric block with a sub-reflector at a distal end. A waveguide transition portion of the dielectric block is dimensioned for insertion coupling into an end of the waveguide. A sub-reflector support portion of the dielectric block and the waveguide transition portion provided with a plurality of longitudinal ribs and grooves coaxial with a longitudinal axis of the assembly; the longitudinal grooves open to a proximal end of the dielectric block. The unitary dielectric block may be manufactured as a single contiguous monolithic portion of dielectric material via injection molding.

In one embodiment, a foldable radome sub-assembly for an antenna reflector dish has flexible material connected to a plurality of rigid rim segments. Connection elements (e.g., inserts) are configured to interconnect two adjacent rim segments, such that, with the connection elements applied, the radome sub-assembly is configured as a radome connectable to the antenna reflector dish, and, without the connection elements applied, the radome sub-assembly is foldable between adjacent rim segments. The foldable radome sub-assembly can be folded up for efficient storage and shipping, yet is easy to configure in the field into a rigid radome for attachment to an antenna reflector dish.

Radome&#x2014;reflector assembly mechanism

An interconnection retaining a radome upon a periphery of a reflector dish has a plurality of curved channel portions, each of the channel portions provided with an open periphery slot and an open retention slot. The periphery slot dimensioned to receive the peripheries of the radome and reflector dish. The channel portions are arranged end-to-end adjacent to one another, encircling the peripheries of the radome and reflector dish seated within the periphery slot. A gap may be provided between one or more of the channel portions. A link member is seated within the retention slot at an end of each adjacent channel portion. The retention slot at the end of each of the adjacent channel portions is crimped upon the link member. The link member may be, for example, a portion of threaded rod or a molded portion of polymer material.

Method and apparatus for radome and reflector dish interconnection

A radome for covering an open end of a reflector dish of a reflector antenna has a generally planar portion of twin-wall extruded polymer material dimensioned to cover the open end of the reflector dish. A periphery of the planar portion is provided with a plurality of slits, the slits defining a plurality of tabs. The tabs are dimensioned for folding around a rim of the reflector dish. The tabs may be retained in the folded position by, for example, a band clamp or directly coupling a portion of the tabs to the planar portion.

A reflector antenna feed RF seal between an antenna base, a feed hub and a vertex plate. The RF seal formed via a generally annular gasket of compressible material adapted to seat around an outer diameter of the feed hub. The gasket having an outer diameter greater than a diameter of a joint between the feed hub and the antenna base and less than an outer diameter of the vertex plate. The gasket compressed within a cavity formed between the antenna base, the feed hub and the vertex plate as the feed hub is seated within the antenna base.
