An aerosol inhalation device suitable for use in association with a pressurized medicament container having a valve stem has a spray head adapted to receive the valve stem. The spray head has an outlet orifice of uniform diameter which is provided with a spout to prevent blockage of the spray head. The device is especially useful in the administration of hygroscopic medicaments, for example sodium cromoglycate or nedocromil sodium.

An elastomeric cap for use in an aerosol inhalation device is disclosed. The cap prevents blockage and the buildup of accretions of medicament on the valve stem of the inhalation device and shields the valve stem from the breath of a user of the inhalation device.

Inhalation devices with a reduced risk of blockage

An aerosol inhalation device, having a mouthpiece (12) and a canister (15) of pressurized hygroscopic medicament, the canister (15) being fitted at one end with a dispensing metering valve; wherein a protective barrier (19) is provided between the dispensing metering valve and the mouthpiece (12) so as to eliminate or substantially reduce blockage of the device.

There is described an improved aerosol dispensing metering valve. The valve, for use with a container for pressurized material comprises a valve body with a single internal metering chamber and outer and inner seals closing the respective outer and inner ends thereof. A valve member co-operating with the seals is movable between an inoperative position, in which the chamber is isolated from the atmosphere while the chamber communicates with the interior of the container, and an operative position in which the contents of the chamber can be discharged to the atmosphere while the chamber is isolated from the interior of the container. The valve member is provided with a lower portion adapted to slidably engage the inner seal when the valve is in the inoperative position, the lower portion being provided with means for communicating between the metering chamber and the interior of the container, the means being of sufficient size to allow the exit of air trapped in the chamber and to permit the entry of pressurized material in to the chamber when the valve is in the inoperative position.
