The magnitude and polarity of the voltage on the fuser roll surface is controlled by either electronic charge application means or by applying charge control agents to the fuser. For negative toner, the fuser roll voltage must also be negative (and visa versa). This will repel the negative toner at the entrance to the fuser nip, prevent the toner from transferring to the fuser roll at the entrance of the fuser nip and preclude the formation of NVO and consequently prevent MOC.

Provided herein is a system for using a cleaning web in an electrostatic printing process to provide a uniform and thin wax layer on the fuser roll and thereby minimize print history effects, reduce triboelectric voltages on the fuser roll and provide uniform and improved release of the toner from the fuser roll. The application of this beneficial thin film to the fuser roll is accomplished by impregnating the cleaning web with a wax material that is substantially the same as the wax material in the toner used in the system. This impregnated wax, therefore, has the same release and triboelectric properties as the wax in the toner and therefore will not attract residual toner but will rather repel it.

System to prevent print history on a fuser roll

A high speed heat and pressure belt fuser apparatus or structure for fixing toner images including an endless belt and a pair of pressure members between which the endless belt is sandwiched for forming a fusing nip through which substrates carrying toner images pass with the toner images contacting an outer surface of the endless belt. Efficient uniform heat transfer to a fusing belt, especially belts with macro non-uniformities and/or a rough surface, for enabling better toner fusing uniformity, preventing localized cold offset and extending belt life is effected by the addition of a spring loaded mechanism inside a belt module within the region of contact with the External Heat Roll (EHR). Such an arrangement produces superior contact and therefore better heat transfer to the belt. A positive and consistent heating contact is essential for uniform and high image gloss.

High speed heat and pressure belt fuser

A heat and pressure belt fuser structure having an endless belt and a pair of pressure engageable members between which the endless belt is sandwiched for forming a fusing nip through which substrates carrying toner images pass with the toner images contacting an outer surface of the endless belt, at least one of the pressure engageable members has a deformable layer, and the endless belt has a thickness of from about 1 to about 8 mm; and the fuser structure includes an external source of thermal energy for elevating a pre-nip area of the belt. The thick belt in combination with a deformable layer of at least one of the pressure member(s) cooperate to provide a large nip and adequate creep for intrinsic paper stripping.

Externally heated thick belt fuser

A high speed heat and pressure belt fuser apparatus or structure for fixing toner images including an endless belt and a pair of pressure members between which the endless belt is sandwiched for forming a fusing nip through which substrates carrying toner images pass with the toner images contacting an outer surface of the endless belt. Thus, one of the pressure rolls is supported internally of the endless belt while the other pressure roll is supported externally of the belt. The belt has at least one conformable or deformable layer which cooperates with a deformable or conformable layer on at least one of the pressure members to provide a large nip that yields high gloss images, long belt life, minimal edge wear and reliable stripping at high speeds. Effective substrate stripping is accomplished by wrapping a portion of the belt about the external roll in a post-nip area.

Three layer seamless transfer component

A method of forming and moving ink drops across a gap between a print head and a print medium, or intermediate print medium, in a marking device includes generating an electric field, forming the ink drops adjacent the print head and controlling the electric field. The electric field is generated to extend across the gap. The ink drops are formed in an area adjacent the print head. The electric field is controlled such that an electrical attraction force exerted on the formed ink drops by the electric field is the greatest force acting on the ink drops. The marking device may be incorporated into a transfuse printing system having an intermediate print medium made of one or more materials that allow for lateral dissipation of electrical charge from the incident ink drops.

Method and apparatus for moving ink drops using an electric field and transfuse printing system using the same

An intermediate transfer member defines a transfer nip with a transfuse member. A cooling platen contacts the intermediate transfer member in the post-transfer nip region. The cooling platen absorbs heat from the intermediate transfer member to evaporate a liquid into a gas. The gas is directed to a heating platen contacting the pre-nip region of the intermediate transfer member. The heating platen condenses the gas to a liquid to heat the intermediate transfer member.

Heat transfer apparatus for an image bearing member

Fabricating belts by forcing adhesive into a belt seam using centrifugal forces. A belt having ends that are fabricated to mate along a seam is inserted into a cylinder such that a seam is formed. An adhesive is then deposited along the seam and the cylinder is spun at a speed sufficient to force the adhesive into the seam. The adhesive is then cured so as to produce a seamed belt.

Seamed belt fabrication using centrifugal forces

Efficient and uniform heating of a thick transfuse member, wherein the transfuse member is constructed in the form of a transfuse belt that is subject to heating at both front and rear surfaces. An elongated cavity is defined by a portion of the path of the transfuse belt about a plurality of guide rollers. Front surface heating is accomplished by use of a heated roller and rear surface heating is accomplished by use of a heat source situated within the cavity. The majority of the cavity is enclosed by the transfuse member and the guide rollers. Substantially all of the output of the heat source is efficiently transferred to the transfuse member and little or none of the heat produced by the heat source is lost to other components or structures.

Efficient heating of intermediate transfuse member

A printing apparatus employs rheological assist to transfer toner images from an intermediate transfer member to a transfuse member prior to final transfer and fusion of the toner image to a substrate. The transfuse member and intermediate member are maintained at a preestablished temperature differential, the intermediate transfer member being heated above ambient temperature. The preestablished temperature differential rheologically assists the transfer of the toner image to provide complete transfer of the toner image.

Image transfer method utilizing heat assist

A cleaning station for removing toner and particulates from a fusing member has first and second cleaning rollers rollingly engaging the fusing member. Each cleaning roller has a roller surface coated with a layer of tacky toner. Each roller further defines an internal receiver for collecting excess toner and particulates, and has an aperture forming a fluid passage between the reservoir and the surface of the roller. A synchronization assembly synchronizes the rotation of the rollers so the second cleaning roller cleans the portions of the fusing member uncleaned by the first cleaning roller due to the aperture in the surface of the first cleaning roller.

Cleaning apparatus for a fusing member

A cleaning station for a fusing member has first and second cleaner rollers. The first cleaner roller is coated with a sticky or adhesive first toner layer. The first toner layer contacts the fuser member for cleaning. The second cleaner roller is coated with a sticky or adhesive second toner layer. The second toner layer is in contact with the first toner layer. The second cleaner roller defines apertures connecting to an internal reservoir. Excess toner from the second toner layer collects in the internal reservoir.

A release agent management system applies a preestablished quantity of a release agent to the image area of a transfuse member. A toner image is transferred to the image area. The image area is moved to a transfuse nip where the toner image is generally simultaneously transferred and fused to a substrate to form a document.

Toner image forming stations form toner images that are electrostatically transferred to the intermediate transfer member. The composite toner image is transferred to the transfuse member at the second transfer nip. The temperature of the transfuse member in the second transfer nip is above the glass transition temperature of the toner image. The toner image is generally transferred and fused to the substrate in the third transfer nip.
