A system and method for updating, monitoring, and controlling applications on a workstation. The workstation includes a workstation management module configured to detect the launch or request to access a network by an application. A workstation application server receives data associated with the application from the workstation. The application server module can determine one or more policies or categories to associate with the application by referencing an application inventory database. Once the application server module has the category or policy, it forwards a hash/policy table to the workstation management module. Upon receipt of the hash/policy table, the workstation management module applies the policy that is associated with the application to control network access by the application.

System and method of monitoring and controlling application files

A system and method for updating a system that controls files executed on a workstation. The workstation includes a workstation management module configured to detect the launch of an application. A workstation application server receives data associated with the application from the workstation. This data can include a hash value. The application server module can determine one or more categories to associate with the application by referencing an application inventory database or requesting the category from an application database factory. The application database factory can receive applications from multiple application server modules. The application database factory determines whether the application was previously categorized by the application database factory and provides the category to the application server module. Once the application server module has the category, it forwards a hash/policy table to the workstation management module. Upon receipt of the hash/policy table, the workstation management module applies the policy that is associated with the launched application to control access to the application on the workstation.

A system for identifying and notifying computers of malicious software programs over an Internet. The system includes a first client inventory module configured to scan a first computer so as to find an un-identified software program and to upload information associated with the un-identified software program; a first upload-download module in communication with the first client inventory module and configured to upload information associated with the un-identified software program over the Internet to a database factory for determination of whether said software program is a malicious software program and producing information identifying the determined malicious software program; a second upload-download module in communication with the database factory and configured to receive information relating to the determined malicious software programs from the database factory; and a second client inventory module in communication with the second upload-download module and configured to receive and store the information associated with the determined malicious software program to a second computer.

A workstation management module is configured to detect requested execution of an application. A workstation application server receives data associated with the application from the workstation. The application server module can determine one or more categories to associate with the application by referencing an application inventory database or requesting the category from an application database factory. The application database factory can receive applications from multiple application server modules. The application database factory determines whether the application was previously categorized and provides the category to the application server module; which forwards a hash/policy table to the workstation management module. Upon receipt of the hash/policy table, the workstation management module applies the policy to control access to the requested application on the workstation.
