An exemplary intake manifold may include an upper manifold configured to receive fresh air, an EGR tube configured to introduce exhaust gas into the upper manifold to be mixed with the fresh air, and a lower manifold configured to distribute the mixture of the fresh air and the exhaust gas cylinders of the internal combustion engine. The upper manifold may include an upper shell and a lower shell that may cooperate to define at least one channel in which at least a portion of the EGR tube may be secured.

An intake manifold assembly includes a housing, a shaft assembly, and an intake insert. The shaft assembly has a metal shaft with bearings located at each end to provide hard mounting surfaces for the shaft assembly when assembled in the housing. The bearings support the shaft within the housing and allow the shaft to freely rotate. Bushings are spaced along the shaft to absorb vibrations and assist is providing a low friction surface for shaft assembly rotation. Journal pockets in the housing and in the intake insert surround the bushings. Isolators located within the journal pockets and housing surround the bushings and assist in dampening vibrations.

An intake manifold is molded of two plastic parts. A first main manifold body provides the outer cover and an inner opening. A second runner provides a plurality of entry ports for communicating air to cylinders within the engine. In the past, it has been somewhat difficult to control the shape of the entry ports when the manifold was molded of a single part. The use of the separate runner allows the provision of a relatively thin and easily molded part such that the entry ports can be closely controlled and an idealized design can be achieved.

An intake manifold for an engine is provided that includes a housing having a passageway carrying blow-by gases from an engine crankcase. A valve body housing having a cavity is defined by a portion of the housing. The valve body housing has a vacuum side and a blow-by gas side. The blow-by gas side is in fluid communication with the passageway. A positive crankcase ventilation valve is disposed within the cavity and permits the blow-by gases to flow from the passageway through to the vacuum side when in an open position. A cap is preferably secured to the housing for sealing the positive crankcase ventilation valve within the cavity. Preferably an oil separator is also integrated into the intake manifold to separate the oil from the blow-by gases.

An emission control system includes a purge valve mounted to an air intake manifold. An external wall defines an internal manifold space for distributing induction flow that has entered the manifold to be directed to the engine cylinders. A substantially cup shaped purge valve mount preferably extends from the external wall. A snap attachment assembly mounts the purge valve assembly into the mount for ease of purge valve assembly mounting and removal. The snap attachment assemblies preferably align the purge valve assembly within the mount to assure that the exhaust port communicates through exhaust aperture. To install the purge valve assembly into the mount, the purge valve assembly need only be pressed into the mount until and attachment member encounters an associated lock.
