An engine system includes an oxygen capture system including at least one adsorbent material, an internal combustion engine fluidly coupled to the oxygen capture system, an exhaust processing system fluidly coupled to the internal combustion engine, the exhaust processing system including a catalytic system, at least one cooler and at least one gas/liquid separator, and a carbon capture system fluidly coupled to the exhaust processing system and the internal combustion engine, the carbon capture system including a carbon dioxide condenser and a carbon dioxide storage.

A biochar production system includes a reactor body, a central rod disposed within the reactor body, a leveling arm extending from the central rod and configured to rotate about the central rod, and a bed level sensor system. The bed level sensor system includes a float configured to move from a resting position on a biomass in the reactor to an ending position upon contact with the leveling arm, and a level sensor coupled to the float via a connector. The level sensor is configured to correspondingly move with the float. A controller is configured to detect bed levels of the biomass within the reactor body, and determine a plurality of sample readings based on the detected bed levels.

A technique for providing electric power to an electric power utility grid includes driving an electric power alternator coupled to the grid with a spark-ignited or direct injection internal combustion engine; detecting a change in electrical loading of the alternator; in response to the change, adjusting parameters of the engine and/or generator to adjust power provided by the engine. In one further forms of this technique, the adjusting of parameters for the engine includes retarding spark timing and/or interrupting the spark ignition; reducing or retarding direct injection timing or fuel amount and/or interrupting the direct injection; and/or the adjusting of parameters for the generator including increasing the field of the alternator or adding an electrical load.

Control of an engine-driven generator to address transients of an electrical power grid connected thereto

A combustion engine and a method of operating the combustion engine are disclosed. The method comprises supplying a charge gas to the combustion chamber through an intake port; discharging a cryogenic fuel in a liquid state from a fuel injector in fluid communication with the combustion chamber; closing an intake valve to close the combustion chamber; and actuating a piston during a compression cycle to compress the charge gas and the cryogenic fuel. At least a portion of the cryogenic fuel evaporates in the closed combustion chamber.

Apparatus, systems, and methods to address evaporative cooling and wet compression for engine thermal management

An apparatus comprises an internal combustion engine including an intake stream, at least one piston cylinder. An air assisted injector is configured to insert a plurality of liquid droplets into the intake stream or cylinder. The injector comprises a gas injection portion configured to deliver a gas to a mixing chamber at a first pressure and a first pulse width. A liquid injection portion is configured to deliver a liquid to the mixing chamber at a first temperature and a second pulse width, and after a predetermined delay relative to the gas so as to generate the plurality of liquid droplets having a mean diameter of up to 5 microns. A nozzle is configured to deliver the plurality of liquid droplets into the intake chamber or cylinder. The gas and the inserted liquid droplets are compressed during a compression stroke in the cylinder and fully vaporize throughout the compression stroke.

Air assisted injector for wet compression atomization

A device comprises a recordable disc, a substrate adjacent to the recordable disc, and an actuation mechanism fixed to the substrate. The recordable disc includes a base layer and a recordable layer on the base layer. Additional electrodes or magnetic components may be placed on the base layer to provide electromagnetic or electrostatic forces to rotate the recordable disc when acted on by the actuation mechanism. As an example, the invention may utilize MEMS techniques in order to integrate a disc and motor of a disc drive as a common component.
