System boot-up can be enabled in low temperature environments. A laptop or other battery-powered computing device can include multiple batteries and a battery architecture that allows the multiple batteries to simultaneously discharge to thereby provide adequate power to boot the system in low temperature environments. The battery architecture may also allow a battery with a higher relative state of charge to charge another battery with a lower relative state of charge to thereby equalize the batteries' relative states of charge.

Enabling system boot-up in low temperature environments

A system and method for dynamically switching power supply in a dual battery system to minimize unbalanced wear levels in the primary and secondary batteries. If the operating temperature of the primary battery reaches a reliability temperature threshold but the operating temperature of the secondary battery is less than the reliability temperature threshold, the controller switches a primary battery indicator to designate the secondary battery as the primary battery. If the operating temperature of the primary battery reaches a pre-shutdown temperature but the operating temperature of the secondary battery is less than the pre-shutdown temperature, the controller switches a primary battery indicator to designate the secondary battery as the primary battery. If a difference between the wear levels of the batteries exceeds a wear level difference threshold, the controller switches a primary battery indicator to designate the secondary battery as the primary battery.

System and method for dynamic switching between batteries in a dual battery system

Motherboard connector failures can be predicted. An embedded controller can be employed on the motherboard to monitor when devices are connected to and disconnected from the motherboard's connectors. The embedded controller can maintain an event log and connector information in which it counts the number of times a device is connected to/disconnected from a connector. The BIOS can leverage the event log and the connector information to notify an end user to take action to correct or prevent possible corrosion. Training records may also be employed to predict connector failure. The training records can track and maintain baseline and periodic device training attributes. When the periodic training attributes deviate from the baseline training attributes, an end user can be notified to take action to remove corrosion.

Predicting motherboard connector failures

An information handling system includes a processor, an embedded controller (EC) and a battery system. The EC sends a request to the processor based upon a temperature of the battery system. The request includes power limit recommendation that is received by the processor. The processor adjusts a workload based upon the received power limit recommendation from the EC. The adjustment in the workload may correspond to a decrease in discharging rates of the battery system.
