An in-line profile sander is disclosed. The in-line profile sander includes a sander housing configured to be grasped by a user. A plurality of interchangeable profile sanding pads can be mounted at a head of the housing. The sander includes an in-line oscillating mechanism for moving the profile sanding pads in a linear oscillating motion.

In-line sander

A process for manufacturing highly wear and fatigue resistant steel components for power tools includes melting and mixing together a readily available base steel and alloying elements. The molten steel is cast into near-net-shape in an investment casting process. This method is cost competitive with forming the same component from steel with fewer alloying elements. In particular, clutch plates for a drill/driver or screw gun can be formed in this manner from a steel containing relatively large amounts of nickel and chromium, such as SAE 9310 steel, or from a steel containing a relatively large total amount of molybdenum and tungsten, such as AISI M2 steel.

Manufacture of steel components for screw gun clutches

A depth adjusting system for a screw gun comprises a base supported on the screw gun, an on/off collar removably attached to the base, and an adjusting collar and a depth locator mounted to the on/off collar. The adjusting collar rotates but cannot move axially relative to the on/off collar. Rotation of the adjusting collar causes the depth locator to move axially relative to the on/off collar for adjusting the depth setting. An indexing system is provided between the adjusting collar and the on/off collar for retaining the angular position of the adjusting collar and the depth setting. The on/off collar can be easily attached and detached from the base with a simple axial force applied to the on/off collar.

Depth adjusting system for a screw gun

A clutch specially adapted for a screw gun includes an output clutch and a driving clutch. The output clutch is movable axially to engage the driving clutch. A helical spline arrangement on the driving clutch causes the driving clutch to move axially towards the output clutch a short distance when torque is transferred through the clutch. When the clutch slips and the torque is released, the driving clutch moves axially away from the output clutch a short distance and a gap is created between the output clutch and driving clutch which prevents clashing. Also, a retaining ring is mounted to an input spindle to limit the axial movement of the driving clutch.

Clutch for a screw gun and utilizing method

The present disclosure relates to a jig saw including a base structure, and a housing pivotally moveable relative to the base structure about a first axis that extends longitudinally along the base structure. A motor is positioned within the housing. The motor reciprocates a blade in an up and down motion. A connecting member extends between the housing and the base structure. The saw also includes a first wedge that cooperates with the connecting member to clamp the housing relative to the base structure. The first wedge is moveable to a first position in which the connecting member is caused to compress the housing and the base structure together such that pivotal movement between the housing and the base structure is inhibited. The first wedge is also moveable to a second position in which the housing can be manually pivoted relative to the base.

Clamp system for a jigsaw tilt base

The present disclosure relates to a jigsaw including a base, a housing pivotally movable relative to the base about a first axis that extends longitudinally along the base, and a motor positioned within the housing. The jigsaw also includes a blade coupled to the motor by a drive mechanism adapted for reciprocating the blade in an up-and-down motion. The blade is laterally supported by a blade guide connected to the base that is pivotally movable about the first axis. When the housing is pivoted relative to the base about the first axis, the blade guide also pivots about the first axis to inhibit binding between the blade and the blade guide.

Blade guide system for a jigsaw

An in-line sander comprising a sander body which houses a motor coupled to an in-line oscillating mechanism. The in-line oscillating mechanism is adapted and configured to move a sanding pad in a linear oscillating motion. A corner or detail pad has a substantially flat lower surface and a substantially pointed front portion bounded laterally by two substantially-linear corner-sanding edges having an included angle of less than 90 degrees. A forward end of this substantially pointed front portion of the preferred corner or detail pad protrudes ahead of a front end of the sander body throughout the linear oscillating motion of the pad. The front portion of the preferred corner or detail pad has particular application for sanding into corners of a carcass.

Jig saw

An in-line sander comprising a sander body which houses a motor coupled to an in-line oscillating mechanism, configured to move a sanding pad in a linear oscillating motion. A corner or detail pad has a substantially flat lower surface and a substantially pointed front portion bounded laterally by two substantially-linear corner-sanding edges having an included angle of less than 90 degrees. A forward end of this substantially pointed front portion of the preferred corner or detail pad protrudes ahead of a front end of the sander body throughout the linear oscillating motion of the pad. The front portion of the preferred corner or detail pad has particular application for sanding into corners of a carcase. A preferred embodiment of the present corner or detail pad has at least one substantially linear side edge which is aligned substantially parallel to the linear oscillating motion of the sander. This substantially linear side edge of the pad protrudes laterally at least as far as the maximum width of the sander body. An alternate preferred sanding pad has at least one extended substantially linear side edge which is aligned substantially parallel to the linear oscillating motion of the sander and which extends laterally a conspicuous distance beyond the maximum width of the sander body.

In-line detail sander

The present invention relates to a sanding system which can be configured into many highly-versatile configurations. The present sanding system is arranged and configured to alternatively and selectably accept for use a corner or detail pad, a shutter pad, and a wide variety of profiled pads. Such versatility is found in no other sander.

Sanding system

A sander vacuum housing and pad frame system is provided for generating unique, continuous air flow for dust collection in a sander coupled to a dust collection system, while providing the versatility of a pad frame system. The system has particular application to a pad frame system for supporting sanding pads having varying characteristics, but is not limited to such a system. The system comprises a vacuum housing configured to be coupled to a motorized sanding mechanism of a sander for moving the vacuum housing in a sanding motion. The vacuum housing defines the upper portion of a dust channel. The dust channel in the vacuum housing is configured for connection to a dust collection system. The system further comprises a pad frame configured to be coupled under the vacuum housing for moving the lower surface of an attached frame in a sanding motion. The pad frame comprises a sanding pad for supporting sandpaper. The vacuum housing defines air flow dust ports, which may be proximate the upper surface of the attached pad frame in a lower portion of the vacuum housing. The dust ports permit a continuous flow of air during dust collection from a region outside the vacuum housing proximate the upper surface of the attached pad frame, through the vacuum housing dust channel, and to the dust collection system. Airborne dust proximate the dust ports will be drawn continuously into the dust collection system.
