The present disclosure relates to lubricant compositions comprising a branched copolymer and methods for making such compositions. Lubricant compositions of the present disclosure comprise an oil and a copolymer and have a high temperature high shear (HTHS) viscosity of about 5 or less, shear stability index (30 cycles) of from about 2% to about 80%, a ratio of thickening efficiency to shear stability index (30 cycles) of from about 1:2 to about 1:30, a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of from about 3 cSt to about 30 cSt, and a thickening efficiency of about 1 or more. In another class of embodiments, the present disclosure provides a lubricant composition comprising a first and a second copolymers wherein the first copolymer has an ethylene content higher than that of the second copolymer, and wherein at least one of the two copolymers is a long chain branched ethylene copolymer.

Ethylene-propylene branched copolymers as viscosity modifiers

The present disclosure also relates to catalyst systems including a catalyst and the activator compound. Also, the present disclosure relates to methods of polymerizing olefins.

Non-coordinating anion type activators for use with polyolefin polymerization catalysts

In some embodiments, a lubricating oil includes at least 50 wt % of a base oil, based on total weight of the lubricating oil. The lubricating oil includes at least 0.1 wt % of a polypropylene homopolymer having a racemic dyad content of about 60% to about 99% and a number average molecular weight (by GPC DRI) of about 10,000 g/mol to about 250,000 g/mol, wherein a total amount of the base oil and the polypropylene homopolymer does not exceed 100 wt %.

A process to produce a branched ethylene-α-olefin diene elastomer comprising combining a catalyst precursor and an activator with a feed comprising ethylene, C3 to C12 α-olefins, and a dual-polymerizable diene to obtain a branched ethylene-α-olefin diene elastomer; where the catalyst precursor is selected from pyridyldiamide and quinolinyldiamido transition metal complexes. The branched ethylene-α-olefin diene elastomer may comprise within a range from 40 to 80 wt % of ethylene-derived units by weight of the branched ethylene-α-olefin diene elastomer, and 0.1 to 2 wt % of singly-polymerizable diene derived units, 0.1 to 2 wt % of singly-polymerizable diene derived units, and the remainder comprising C3 to C12 α-olefin derived units, wherein the branched ethylene-α-olefin diene elastomer has a weight average molecular weight (M) within a range from 100 kg/mole to 300 kg/mole, an average branching index (g′) of 0.9 or more, and a branching index at very high M(g′) of less than 0.9.

Ethylene-a-olefin-diene elastomers and methods of making them

It has become desirable to limit or exclude aromatic solvents, such as toluene, from polymerization reactions. For polymerization reactions employing a non-metallocene transition metal complex as a precursor to a polymerization catalyst, exclusion of aromatic solvents may be difficult due to the limited solubility of such complexes in aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents. Aliphatic hydrocarbon solutions suitable for conducting olefin polymerization reactions, particularly solution polymerization reactions, may comprise: a non-metallocene transition metal complex dissolved in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent at a concentration ranging from about 2 mM to about 20 mM at 25&#xb0; C. in the presence of an organoaluminum compound. A molar ratio of aluminum of the organoaluminum compound to transition metal of the transition metal complex is about 1:1 or greater, and the organoaluminum compound comprises at least about 8 carbons per aluminum.

Solubility improvement of non-metallocene transition metal complexes in aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents

This invention relates to a supported catalyst system comprising: (i) at least one first catalyst component comprising a group 4 bis(phenolate) complex; (ii) at least one second catalyst component comprising a 2,6-bis(imino)pyridyl iron complex; (iii) activator; and (iv) support. The catalyst system may be used for preparing polyolefins, such a bimodal polyethylene, typically in a gas phase polymerization.

Catalysts for olefin polymerization

The present disclosure provides methods for producing an olefin polymer by contacting a C-Colefin, ethylene and a diene with a catalyst system including an activator and a metallocene catalyst compound comprising a substituted or unsubstituted indacenyl group and obtaining a C-Colefin-ethylene-diene terpolymer typically comprising from 1 to 35 mol % of ethylene, from 98.9 to 65 mol % C-Colefin, and, optionally, from 0.1 to 10 mol % diene. In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides for ethylene-propylene random copolymers having an ethylene content between about 45 wt % and about 55 wt %. In some embodiments, ethylene-propylene branched copolymers are synthesized with pyridyldiamido catalysts and a chain transfer agent, and their performance as viscosity modifiers in oil are detailed. In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides for ethylene-propylene branched copolymers having a shear thinning onset of less than about 0.01 rad/s and an HTHS value of less than about 3.3. In some embodiments, the ethylene-propylene branched copolymer is used as a viscosity modifier in a lubricating composition and a fuel composition.
