The invention relates to a process for the production of a high strength transparent high density polyethylene article comprising the steps of (i) heating a high density polyethylene (HDPE) to a temperature above the melting temperature (T) of the HDPE; (ii) molding the heated HDPE obtained in step (i) to form a hot molded HDPE article; (iii) cooling the hot molded HDPE article to a temperature below Tto form a melt-crystallized HDPE article; (iv) stretching the melt-crystallized HDPE article to a total draw ratio of at least 5 comprising at least one stretching step of the article at a temperature Tbelow the melting temperature Tto a draw ratio (DR) of at least 2 to form an oriented HDPE article, wherein the HDPE has a melt flow index (MFI) measured at 21.6 kg and 190&#xb0; C. according to ASTM D1238 of at most 1.5 g/I Omin, an isotropic density measured according to ISO 1 183-1 A of at most 0.955 g/cm3 and a Tmeasured according to ISO 1 1357-3 of greater than 130&#xb0; C. The invention also relates to high strength transparent HDPE articles and products comprising the high strength transparent HDPE article such as ballistic resistant articles, visors, car parts, train parts, plane parts, windshields, windows and radomes.

Transparent drawn article

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a gel spun UHMWPE fiber comprising the steps of providing an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene composition having an intrinsic viscosity (IV) of at least 8 dl/g, a co-monomer content (CBR) of a least 0.05 SCB/1000TC, a mass averaged distribution of the co-monomer (CMAD) of at least 0.05, wherein the co-monomer has at least 4 carbon atoms, dissolving the composition in a solvent to form a polymer solution having a UHMWPE concentration of between 2 and 40 wt %, spinning the polymer solution through a multi orifice die plate to form a solution fibers, cooling the solution fiber to below 80&#xb0; C. to form a gel fiber, drawing the fiber in at least one step to form a drawn fiber, removing at least a portion of the solvent before, during or after the drawing, wherein the ratio CMAD to CBR is greater than 1.0. The invention further relates to a gel-spun UHMWPE fiber obtainable by the process and products comprising said gel-spun UHMWPE fiber.

Low creep fiber

Particulate ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (pUHMWPE) are disclosed having an intrinsic viscosity (IV) of at least 4 dl/g, a molecular weight distribution M/Mof less than 4.0, a median particle size D50 of between 50 and 200 &#x3bc;m, a residual Ti-content of less than 10 ppm, a residual Si-content of less than 50 ppm, and a total ash content of less than 1000 ppm.
