A rifle construction includes an action and barrel that seat within a stock. The action is fastened to the stock with flexible fasteners that allow the action to seat properly and maintain alignment in the presence of recoil forces or other forces acting on the fasteners. The fasteners can thus compensate for forces created by misalignment during assembly, temperature changes and/or recoil without adversely affecting the zero of the firearm.

Flexible fasteners for use in rifle construction

A rifle construction includes an action and barrel that seat within a stock. Vibration-damping material, such as a foam or gel, is interposed between at least portions of the stock and action that would normally be in contact with each other. The material may be secured to the stock or metal parts as adhesively backed strips or may be sprayed or extruded. The action is fastened to the stock with flexible fasteners that allow the action to seat properly and maintain alignment in the presence of recoil forces or other forces acting on the fasteners.

Vibration damping in rifle construction

A skinning knife, comprising a handle, a slitting blade disposed at a forward portion of the handle and having an upwardly- and forwardly-directed cutting edge, a first spreading member disposed at the forward most position of the knife so as to spread apart two portions of animal hide that have been separated by the slitting blade, and a retractable punch blade disposed in the handle beneath slitting blade for opening a hole in the hide, the first spreading member having a slot therein for receiving the punch blade. A punch blade actuation mechanism is provided for moving the punch blade through the slot in the first spreading member. Preferably, a second spreading member disposed below and forward of the first spreading member is provided for facilitating entry into a small slit.

Skinning knife

A skinning knife, comprising a handle, a slitting blade disposed at a forward portion of the handle and having an upwardly- and forwardly-directed cutting edge, a first spreading member disposed at the forward most position of the knife so as to spread apart two portions of animal hide or other material that have been separated by the slitting blade as the knife is thrust forwardly, and a retractable punch blade disposed in the handle beneath slitting blade for opening a hole in the hide when the knife is thrust forwardly, the first spreading member having a slot therein for receiving the punch blade. A punch blade actuation mechanism is provided for selectively moving the punch blade forwardly and rearwardly through the slot in the first spreading member. Preferably, the skinning knife also comprises a second spreading member disposed below and forward of the first spreading member for facilitating entry into a small slit.

A construction for a firearm comprises an action, including a barrel, and a stock. The action is seated to the stock on a three-point bearing system comprising three bearings arranged in a triangular array. This provides for firm seating for the action and results in a more accurate firearm.

Firearm construction employing three point bearing

A shoe and boot protecting assembly includes a foot portion with a top wall. A front wall, a first side wall and a second side wall are each integrally attached to and extend downwardly from the top wall. An ankle portion includes a forward wall that has a lower edge, and upper edge, a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge. The lower edge is integrally attached a back edge of the top wall. A first lateral wall is attached to the first lateral edge and is orientated parallel with the first side wall. A second lateral wall is attached to the second lateral edge and is orientated parallel with the second side wall. Each of a plurality of couplers is attached to the ankle and foot portions. The couplers are adapted for releasably securing the foot and ankle portions on a foot covering.

The overall length of the chamber has a ratio to a diameter thereof, at a predetermined location on a wide portion of the chamber, of no more than about 3.5. Such diameter is at least about 0.53 inch, and the length of the wide portion of the chamber has a ratio to such diameter of no more than about 3.

A short-action firearm cartridge has unique pressure, length and diametric relationships. The overall length of the cartridge case has a ratio to a diameter thereof, at a predetermined location on a wide portion of the case, of no more than about 4.2. Such diameter is at least about 0.53 inch, and the length of the wide portion of the case has a ratio to such diameter of no more than about 3.33.

High-power firearm cartridge

A short-action firearm has a chamber and bolt assembly with unique pressure, length and diametric relationships. The overall length of the chamber has a ratio to a diameter thereof, at a predetermined location on a wide portion of the chamber, of no more than about 4.2. Such diameter is at least about 0.53 inch, and the length of the wide portion of the chamber has a ratio to such diameter of no more than about 3.33.

Short-action firearm for high-power firearm cartridge

A device for machining a cartridge case that has a neck comprising a circular neck wall, a mouth and a primer pocket. The device includes a gripping assembly, adapted to accept and retain a cartridge case and a neck machining assembly, positioned to engage the cartridge case from a first direction and adapted to machine the neck of the cartridge case. Additionally, a primer pocket machining assembly is positioned to engage the cartridge case from a second direction, opposed to the first direction, thereby permitting simultaneous primer pocket and neck engagement, and adapted to machine the primer pocket.

Device for reducing the eccentricity and non-uniformities among cartridge cases

A firearm cartridge case capable of withstanding internal gas pressures of at least about 50,000 psi has two substantially cylindrical portions of significantly different diameters interconnected by a frusto-conical shoulder portion. The case has a ratio of its overall length to its diameter, at a location 1.25 inches from its base, of no more than about 4.2, giving it an unusually short, fat profile. The base of the case has a rim with an outer diameter substantially no less than the case diameter at the aforementioned location, to facilitate reliable feeding of the cartridge from the magazine. The corresponding firearm chamber which matingly accepts the cartridge is capable of withstanding internal gas pressures of at least about 65,000 psi. A short-action bolt assembly smoothly and reliably feeds and chambers each cartridge by providing an extractor grippingly engageable with the cartridge by movement of the cartridge transversely to the bolt face when the bolt is in its unlocked position, so as to grip the cartridge while the bolt pushes the cartridge into the chamber.

A plurality of pressure transducers are spaced apart longitudinally along a mass of fluid so that they can sense disturbances in the fluid. A projectile launcher, which is typically a gun, is positioned such that the projectile launcher can be discharged to launch a projectile into the fluid. The pressure transducer(s) will sense the disturbance created in the fluid as the projectile passes through. A computer connected to the pressure transducers will process the output of the pressure transducers creating a response curve which is related to the energy dissipation of the projectile.
