A medical instrument includes a handle, a suture lock associated with the handle, the suture lock being configured to fix a position of a portion of a suture line relative to a portion of the handle when the suture lock is in a locked configuration, and a manually-actuatable actuator associated with the handle and configured to cause the suture lock to transition from the locked position to an unlocked position.

Controlled suture tensioning

A suture system can comprise a first and a second curved double arm needle, and a needle docking device configured to maintain the first and the second curved double arm needles in alignment with and parallel to one another and at predetermined orientations relative to the needle docking device. The system can include a needle manipulating instrument having a distal portion configured to engage the first and the second curved double arm needles while the first and second curved double arm needles are in the needle docking device, and to maintain the needles in predetermined orientations.

Closing tissue openings

A method of suturing a tissue opening can comprise placing a tissue-facing surface of a first pad, a second pad and a third pad over respective tissue areas adjacent to the tissue opening. The second pad can be positioned on a first side of the first pad and the third pad can be positioned on a second side of the first pad. The first and second pads can be coupled to a suture, the suture forming a stitch over the upper surface of each of the respective pads. The suture can be stitched through an area of tissue between the first pad and the second pad, between the second pad and the third pad, and between the third pad and the first pad. A first distal portion and a second distal portion of the suture can be coupled to the third pad for forming the purse-string suture.

A method for repairing a native valve of a patient during a non-open-heart procedure includes attaching two or more attachment members to the native valve. The method also includes applying a force to the two or more attachment members such that the two or more attachment members cause a cinching effect on at least a portion of the native valve. The method further includes securing the two or more attachment members with one or more anchor members such that the two or more attachment members maintain the cinching effect.

Valve repair devices and procedures

Devices, systems, and methods including a lubricating solution bath for a pump integrated into an ophthalmic surgical hand piece are provided. In some embodiments, an ophthalmic pump system includes a housing defining a cavity. The system includes a rotating element positioned within the cavity of the housing. The system includes a flexible tubular structure positioned within the housing adjacent to the rotating element such that rotation of the rotation element urges a fluid through the flexible tubular structure. The system includes a lubricating solution positioned within the cavity around the rotating element and at least a portion of the flexible tubular structure.

Ophthalmic lubrication system and associated apparatus, systems, and methods

Ocular surgery may be performed by a variety of systems, processes, and techniques. In certain implementations, systems and processes for ocular surgery may include the ability to emulsify a lens in an eye using a modular hand-held system including a phacoemulsification unit detachably coupled to a pump unit and remove lens portions from the eye using suction provided by the pump unit. The system and the process may also include the ability to decouple the phacoemulsification unit from the pump unit, couple an irrigation-aspiration unit to the pump unit to form a second hand-held system, and remove material from the eye using suction provided by the pump unit.

Systems and methods for ocular surgery

Disclosed herein is an apparatus for insertion in an eye of a patient for aspirating material from the eye in the treatment of an ocular condition, the apparatus comprising a needle disposed at a distal end of the apparatus, an aspiration channel extending from a distal aperture of the needle to a proximal end of the apparatus, and an irrigation sleeve coaxially disposed about the needle. The aspiration channel comprises a proximal portion having a first diameter, a bypass portion having a second diameter and at least one bypass port, and a distal portion having a third diameter. The second diameter is larger than the first diameter. The irrigation sleeve and the needle form an annular irrigation passageway therebetween. The bypass port is shaped and configured to establish fluid communication between the irrigation passageway and the aspiration channel.
