A system to configure respiratory therapy modes for users of respiratory therapy devices comprises one or more processors configured to execute computer program modules. The modules include a data gathering module for receiving usage information related to a respiratory therapy device in a first therapy mode, an analysis module for determining effectiveness information related to effectiveness of therapy, a provider interface module configured for receiving a first unlock selection based on the determined effectiveness information, the first unlock selection being received while the respiratory therapy device is operating in the first therapy mode, the first unlock selection indicating that a second therapy mode for the respiratory therapy device should be unlocked, and a device configuration module configured such that, responsive to reception of the first unlock selection by the provider interface module, the device configuration module activates the second therapy mode for the respiratory therapy device.

Unlocking a respiratory mode

A gas delivery system () for delivering a flow of breathing gas to a patient () includes a blower assembly () structured to generate the flow of breathing gas. The blower assembly includes a gas flow path including an inlet manifold, an assembly () structured to adjust a pressure and/or flow rate of the flow of breathing gas, and an outlet manifold structured to be coupled to a patient circuit. The gas delivery system additionally includes a light system structured to generate sanitizing light and deliver the sanitizing light to one or more internal surfaces of at least one of the inlet manifold, the assembly and the outlet manifold for sanitizing the one or more internal surfaces.

A respiratory therapy device is configured, e.g. by a care provider, such that a second therapy mode different from the current therapy mode is unlocked, under predetermined circumstances and a third therapy mode different from the current and the second therapy mode is unlocked, under predetermined circumstances. The user of a given respiratory therapy device may activate the unlocked second or third therapy mode. The second or the third therapy mode may expire after a predetermined amount of usage, and be deactivated.

Humidifier assembly and method of providing moisture to supplied gas in a pressure support system

A method of automatically controlling the temperature of a patient circuit () of a pressure support system () includes determining (directly measuring or estimating/deriving) one or more environmental parameters relating to environmental conditions around the pressure support system, such as ambient temperature and/or ambient humidity, determining a desired temperature based on at least the one or more environmental parameters, and controlling the operation of a heating apparatus () operatively associated with the patient circuit based on the desired temperature. Also, a pressure support system implementing the method.

Automatic control of temperature in a patient circuit

Passive heating may be provided to a flexible tube () configured to deliver respiratory gas to a patient. A flexible sheathing body () may be removably attached to the flexible tube so as to surround the flexible tube and extend along the flexible tube. A passive heating element () integrated with the flexible sheathing body may store non-electrical energy and release the stored non-electrical energy as thermal energy to heat the flexible tube.

A method of automatically controlling the humidity of a gas stream of a pressure support system () during use of the system is provided. The method includes receiving a first humidification level, and controlling operation of a humidifier () based on the first humidification level and at least one of: (i) one or more environmental parameters relating to environmental conditions around the pressure support system, (ii) one or more gas stream parameters relating to a gas stream output by the pressure support system to a patient circuit (), (iii) one or more respiratory demand parameters of a user of the pressure support system, and (iv) one or more operating parameters of the pressure support system that effect a flow rate that is generated by a pressure generating system () of the pressure support system.

Automatic humidity control in a pressure support system

A humidifier for use with a pressure support system. The humidifier includes a body having an inlet, a fluid holding chamber, and an outlet. The inlet is positioned upstream and in fluid communication with the fluid holding chamber. The outlet is positioned downstream of and in fluid communication with the fluid holding chamber. A back-flow preventing valve is positioned upstream of the fluid chamber. The back-flow preventing valve is movable between an open position, in which the inlet is unblocked, and a closed position in which the inlet is blocked. In the closed position, the back-flow preventing valve prevents fluid, fluid vapor, or both from entering the pressure support via the inlet to the humidifier.

The swivel exhaust conduit design provides an exhaust port that utilizes the rotating bearing of the swivel conduit's rotating two-piece design for permitting and directing exhaust of COladen air. A baffle chamber formed in the clearance of the two pieces provides an area where noise is reduced. As COladen exhaust exits the swivel exhaust conduit, it is directed away from the patient mask and down the outside of the delivery conduit via a slit pattern on the swivel conduit.
