An entryway system includes a divided volute turbocharger having variable turbine geometry (VTG). The turbocharger includes a turbine housing, first and second volutes separated by a wall having a first and second tongue, and a turbine housing outlet. The system also includes a turbine wheel disposed in the turbine housing and a vane ring disposed in the turbine housing between the turbine wheel and the volutes. The system includes design modifications of one or more of the VTG components and/or locations of such components to manipulate the aerodynamic forces and/or subsequent mechanical loads in the VTG mechanism of the entryway system to mitigate VTG component wear during normal usage.

A system includes a divided volute turbocharger having variable turbine geometry. The turbocharger includes a turbine housing, first and second volutes separated by a wall having a first and second tongue, and a turbine housing outlet. The system also includes a turbine wheel disposed in the turbine housing and a vane ring disposed in the turbine housing between the turbine wheel and the volutes. The vane ring includes a plurality of rotatable vanes disposed on a vane ring surface of an annular disk in an asymmetric or asymmetric vane pattern that receives the turbine wheel therewithin and a pair of aerodynamic spacers spaced circumferentially outward of the plurality of vanes with each spacer positioned adjacent to a respective one tongue, with the spacers and vanes directing and controlling the flow of exhaust from the volutes into the turbine wheel with generally equal flow while significantly reducing HCF forcing function.

A turbocharger comprising: a turbine wheel; a compressor wheel; a shaft member connecting the turbine wheel and the compressor wheel, the shaft member, turbine wheel, and compressor wheel being located along the same longitudinal axis; and a varying geometric technology system comprising a first guide ring member, a second guide ring member, a plurality of rotatable guide vane members positioned between the first and second guide ring members and in a substantially circular arrangement at a first radius from the longitudinal axis, and a plurality of spacer members also positioned between the first and second guide ring members, and located between the longitudinal axis and the circular arrangement of guide vane members.

A number of variations may include a method for increasing peak flow in a variable geometry turbine turbocharger comprising: by-passing fluid flow to a turbine impeller by forming at least one internal by-pass passage through at least one of a lower vane ring of a vane pack assembly or a turbine housing below the lower vane ring; providing a first end of a vane component within the at least one internal by-pass passage; and using the first end of the vane component as a rotary valve to control fluid flow through the at least one internal by-pass passage.

A number of variations may include a product comprising: a vane lever comprising a first end; a second end; a top surface; and a bottom surface; and an opening defined by an inner surface which extends through the top surface and the bottom surface of the second end, and wherein at least a portion of the inner surface comprises a non-cylindrical, multi-lobed shape.
