A well drilling head comprises a well drilling head housing, a bearing assembly, a first lubricant manifold and a second lubricant manifold. The well drilling head housing has a sidewall structure defining a central bore. The bearing assembly is configured for being removably seated within the well drilling head housing and for having a stripper rubber assembly attached to a lower end portion thereof. The bearing assembly includes a plurality of bearings and a bearing lubricant flow path configured for allowing bearing lubricant to be circulated through the bearings. The first lubricant manifold has a bearing lubricant passage coupled to the first end portion of the bearing lubricant flow path. The second lubricant manifold has a bearing lubricant passage coupled to a second end portion of the bearing lubricant flow path.

Bearing assembly system with integral lubricant distribution and well drilling equipment comprising same

A rotating control device has a bowl including a central passage configured for having a bearing assembly positioned therein. A bowl sleeve ledge is integral the bowl within the central passage. The bowl sleeve is removably disposed within the central passage. Movement of the bowl sleeve along a length of the central passage is constrained by the bowl sleeve ledge and movement of the bowl sleeve radially with respect to the length of the central passage is constrained by a central passage surface. A sealing device of a first configuration is engaged between an exterior surface of the bowl sleeve and the central passage surface. The bearing assembly has an exterior surface of its outer barrel engaged with the interior surface of the bowl sleeve. A sealing device of a second configuration is engaged between the interior surface of the bowl sleeve and the exterior surface of the outer barrel.

A well drilling head comprises a housing and a bearing assembly. The housing has a sidewall structure defining a central bore. A tapered bearing assembly seating surface is provided within the central bore of the housing. The bearing assembly includes an outer barrel having a central bore, an inner barrel at least partially disposed within the central bore of the outer barrel and bearing units coupled between the barrels for providing concentric alignment of the barrels and allowing rotation therebetween. The outer barrel is removably seated within the central bore of the housing. A tapered exterior surface of the outer barrel is engaged with the tapered bearing assembly seating surface of the housing whereby engagement of the tapered surfaces align the outer barrel with respect to the central bore of the housing.

A reinforced stripper rubber assembly with a stripper rubber body including a drillstring engaging portion having a drillstring bore extending axially therethrough. The drillstring engaging portion of the stripper rubber body is made from an elastomeric material, has an inner surface that engages a drillstring when the drillstring is dispose therein and has a reinforcing insert receiving recess within an exterior surface thereof extending at least partially around the drillstring bore. A reinforcing insert is disposed within the reinforcing insert receiving recess. The reinforcing insert includes an elastomeric material bonded to the stripper rubber body within the reinforcing insert receiving recess. A support structure is disposed within a support structure engaging portion of the stripper rubber body. The support structure includes a central opening generally aligned with the drillstring bore thereby allowing the drillstring to pass jointly through the central opening and the drillstring bore.

A kelly driver has a top ring and a plurality of split bushings. The a top ring has a top surface, a bottom surface, a drive lug extending from the bottom surface, and a central passage extending through the top and bottom surfaces. The drive lug has a notch within an end face thereof. A first one of the split bushings has a drive lug extending outwardly from a side surface thereof. Adjacent pairs of the split bushings have end portions thereof pivotably connected to each other through a respective hinge structure. Each hinge structure includes a respective connection pin about which adjacent pair of the split bushings are pivotably connected. An upper surface of each one of the split bushings is engaged with the bottom surface of the top ring with the drive lug of the first one of the split bushings positioned within the drive lug of the top ring.

A first one of the bearing units is configured for carrying loads exerted radially between the barrels and a second one of the bearing units is configured for carrying loads exerted longitudinally between the barrels. The preload force exerting member maintains force on the longitudinal load carrying bearing unit and said barrels thereby preloading the longitudinal load carrying bearing unit.

A bearing cooling system comprises a bearing assembly, a heat exchanger, a coolant flow circuit apparatus and a lubricant flow circuit apparatus. The bearing assembly is configured for being removably seated within a well drilling head housing and for having a stripper rubber assembly attached thereto. The bearing assembly includes bearings and a lubricant flow path configured for allowing lubricant to be circulated through the bearings. The heat exchanger has a lubricant core portion and a coolant core portion, which are jointly configured for allowing heat transfer between respective fluids of the core portions. The coolant flow circuit apparatus is coupled to the coolant core portion and is configured for circulating coolant through the coolant core portion. The lubricant flow circuit apparatus is coupled to the lubricant core portion and lubricant flow path, and is configured for circulating lubricant through the coolant core portion and the lubricant flow path.

A well drilling head housing comprises a sidewall structure, a ram and selective displacement means. The sidewall structure defines a central bore configured for having a bearing assembly removably seated therein. The ram is slideably mounted on the side wall structure and is disposed within a passage extending through the sidewall structure. The selective displacement means is coupled between the ram and the sidewall structure. The selective displacement means, is configured for moving the ram to an engaged position in which the ram is engaged with the bearing assembly for securing the bearing assembly in a seated position within the central bore and a disengaged position in which the ram is disengaged from the bearing assembly thereby allowing the bearing assembly to be removed from within the central bore.

A top drive apparatus for a well drilling head comprises a top drive structure, a seal body and a plurality of resilient members. The top drive structure is configured for being fixedly attached to an upper end portion of a bearing assembly and having a seal-carrying portion. The seal body has a mounting portion and a wiper portion extending from the mounting portion. The mounting portion is slideably disposed within a groove of the seal-carrying portion of the top drive structure. The plurality of resilient members are disposed within the groove between the mounting portion of the seal body and the top drive structure such that the entire seal body is resiliently displaceable with respect to the top drive structure.

An adapter comprises a generally cylindrical adapter, engagement member bores, retention member bores, and an attachment structure configured for allowing the adapter to be fixedly attached to a mating portion of the drilling head equipment. The engagement member bores extend effectively parallel to the central bore. The retention member bores are each adjacent a respective one of the engagement member bores. The retention member bores are positioned such that the engagement pin bores and retention member bores intersect. The retention member bore is configured for having a retention member engaged therein in a manner allowing the retention member to be selectively displaced along a length of the retention member bore. The adapter includes a central bore to accommodate a down hole tubular. The attachment structure includes a surface adjacent the central bore comprising fastener bores substantially parallel to the central bore for facilitating connection of the adapter to the drilling head equipment.

A bearing assembly for a well drilling head has an outer barrel, an inner barrel, bearing units and a cover plate. The outer barrel has an upper end portion, a lower end portion and a central bore extending therebetween. The inner barrel is at least partially disposed within the central bore of the outer barrel. The bearing units are coupled between the barrels for providing concentric alignment of the barrels and allowing rotation therebetween. The cover plate is non-rotatably attached to the upper end portion of the outer barrel. An upper end portion of the inner barrel is exposed within a central opening of the cover plate. An outside edge portion of an upper surface of the cover plate encompassing the central opening is downwardly angled with respect to a central axis of the cover plate.
