This invention relates to a pneumatic tire with puncture sealing property and a method for preparing such tire. Such tire is prepared by building an uncured butyl rubber-based layer, which contains a peroxide and a dispersion therein of a particulate precured rubber selected from pre resin-cured butyl rubber and/or pre sulfur-cured diene-based elastomer, into an uncured tire and between an innerliner layer and the tire carcass. Upon curing the prepared tire under conditions of elevated temperature, a major portion of the uncured butyl rubber composition is depolymerized to form a tacky material, which contains said dispersion therein of said particulate precured rubber, which has puncture sealant properties. Such layer of depolymerized butyl rubber and dispersed precured rubber particles may be collectively referred to as the sealant layer.

Self-sealing pneumatic tire and preparation thereof

The present invention is directed towards the hybrid combination of a drop gate injection molding system and a lattice gate. The lattice gate is located prior to the orifice of the drop gate. The lattice gate is comprised of a series of cross-direction flow channels through which the rubber flows, with mixing of the rubbers at the intersections of the flow channels. This hybrid molding system permits shorter cure times, and improved process cycle time for curing rubbers.

The present invention is directed to the structure of an inline runner for injection molding which uniformly increases the temperature of the injected compound as the compound flows from the injection port to single or multiple drop gates at the entrance to single or multiple injection mold cavities. The present invention relates to a lattice gate for directing streams of rubber into an injection molding device through a plurality of intersecting channels ( ) which thermally mix the streams of rubber within the gate ( ) as they pass through the intersections of the flow channels permitting the injection time of the rubber into the mold cavity to be decreased while simultaneously reducing the time for curing the rubber within the mold.

Lattice gate for injection molding of rubber compounds

The invention relates to expandable butyl rubber bladders for use in curing presses for hydrocarbon rubbers such as pneumatic tires. The bladders are a crosslinked elastomer comprising isobutylene repeat units and the bladder composition contains lecithin, particularly a modified lecithin, preferably in liquid form, dispersed within the bladder composition. The bladder composition may also contain castor oil, corn oil and/or soya-bean oil. The bladder composition may also contain at least one of graphite and polytetrafluoroethylene powder. The invention also relates to a method of curing tires by utilizing such butyl rubber bladder.

Tire curing bladder containing lecithin and use thereof

A segmental drum (10) has spaced-apart inflatable turnup bladders (24) for folding each edge (28) of a belt (30) applied to the drum (10). The spacing of the bladders (24) is adjustable by axial movement in opposite directions of central hub assemblies (42,44) threaded on screws (76). Fine adjustment of the spacing to straigten the fold line (32) of each bladder (24) is provided by axial adjustment of rigid polyurethane bladder support brackets (18) connected to the central hub assemblies (42,44). Radial expansion of the segments (16) is provided by links (84) between each of the segments (16) and spaced drum expanding hub assemblies (86,88) threaded on a drum control screw (96). A molded central filler block (62) of rigid polyurethane is mounted on each segment (16) to fill the space between the bladder support brackets (18). A molded center sleeve (72) of stretchable resilient polyurethane material is positioned over the central filler blocks (62) of the segments (16) and may have a contoured outer surface (74) for shaping the belt (30).

Spacer segments (24) of various thicknesses are attached to radially movable master segments (14) of a transfer ring (16) for gripping and transferring tread belt packages of different diameters. The spacer segments (24) are of a resilient material and may have molded arm members (32) with flexible, resilient ribs (42) for engaging edge portions (46) of the master segments (14). Handles (70) may be provided on the arm members (32) for bending the arm members (32) to install and remove the spacer segments (24). Axial movement of the spacer segments (24) relative to the master segments (14) is limited by circumferentially extending raised edges (58,60,66,68) on the cylindrical mating surfaces (26,28) of the master segments (14) and the spacer segments (24).

The annular, resilient, flexible, compressible wedge has a generally T-shaped axial cross-section with an outer head portion, an inner trunk portion and an inner-connecting throat portion with a generally triangular cross-section therebetween, and a continuous reinforcing annular textile fabric strip integral with said head, throat and trunk portions, said wedge being of a continuous structure having a core of especially prepared microcellular polyurethane and an outer densified relatively smooth skin.
