Methods, systems, and devices for providing computer implemented services are provided. The computer implemented services may be provided using hardware components of a data processing system. The hardware components may be positioned in a chassis that provide for access to the hardware components for replacement, expansion, and/or other purposes. To do so, the chassis may include sleds in which the hardware components are positioned. The sleds may facilitate operable connections between the hardware components using a limited number of mechanical features.

System and method for management of data processing system components

A multi-device chassis air filter characterization system includes a multi-device chassis, an air filter that is included on the multi-device chassis, and a plurality of computing devices that are housed in the multi-device chassis. Each of the computing devices determines that a current time corresponds to a predetermined air filter characterization time period and, in response, operates a cooling system in that computing device at a predetermined cooling system operating level for the predetermined air filter characterization time period. A first computing device that is included in the plurality of computing devices measures an air filtering characteristic provided by the air filter during the predetermined air filter characterization time period and, based on the air filtering characteristic, determines whether to generate an air filter replacement alert.

Multi-device chassis air filter characterization system

An improved method and system for heating and cooling an electronic device, when internal temperatures are below safe operating ranges. To do so, the system selectively heats or cools each zone of the electronic device. This may be done by individual heaters and/or cooling system for each separate zones. Alternatively, or in addition too, the system can selectively open and close baffles, causing fresh ambient air to enter and/or recirculate heated air in a device's enclosure. This keeps sensitive components of the computing device, such as processors and memory from suffering damage, by operating them at temperatures that are either too cold or too warm.

Independent active cooling and heating control loop per component

An information handling system includes a chassis having a cold aisle edge and a hot aisle edge, one or more devices inserted within the cold aisle edge, a power supply unit, and a baseboard management controller (BMC). The BMC determines whether a power supply cooling fan of the power supply unit installed within the information handling system has a fixed airflow direction or changeable airflow direction. In response to the power supply cooling fan having a fixed airflow direction, the BMC determines a configuration of the information handling system. The BMC determines a power supply cooling fan orientation of a power supply cooling fan within the power supply unit, and whether the power supply cooling fan orientation corresponds to the configuration of the information handling system. If not, the BMC provides an alert message to an individual associated with the information handling system.

Flexible server chassis with alternative power supply locations and directions

Methods, systems, and devices for storing data are provided. To store data, a data storage system may include multiple storage nodes and a support node. Copies of data may be stored in the storage nodes. When the data stored by the storage nodes appears to be inconsistent, metadata from the support node may be used to resolve the inconsistencies. The storage nodes and support node may be integrated into a single chassis. The chassis may be a form factor compliant chassis such as a rack unit compliant chassis for mounting to rack rails.

System and method to ensure data integrity of software defined storage system

Embodiments of the invention may provide an improved method for pre-heating an electronic device such as an information handling system, when internal temperatures are below safe operating ranges. To do so, the system selectively heats the entire device or select zones of the electronic device for a predetermined amount of time when the system is restarted after a period of time sufficient to bring the system to ambient temperatures. The predetermined amount of time is determined based on measured ambient temperatures. Using a table that corresponds the ambient temperatures to a time that a component needs to heat up to a nominal temperature in a zone, the predetermined time can be calculated.

A computer-implemented method enables rack-level predictive power capping and power budget allocation to processing nodes in a rack-based IHS. A rack-level management controller receives node-level power-usage data and settings from several block controllers, including current power consumption and an initial power budget for each node. A power consumption profile is generated based on the power-usage data for each node. A total available system power of the IHS is identified. A system power cap is determined based on the power consumption profiles and the total available system power. A current power budget is determined for each node based on an analysis of at least one of the power consumption profile, the initial power budget, the current power consumption, the system power cap, and the total available system power. A power subsystem regulates power budgeted and supplied to each node based on the power consumption profiles and the system power cap.

Predictive power capping and power allocation to computing nodes in a rack-based information handling system

A computer-implemented method enables global throttling of processing nodes in a rack-configured information handling system (RIHS). A rack-level management controller receives power-usage data and operating parameters associated with processing nodes within separately-controlled blocks of the RIHS. A power subsystem of the RIHS regulates an amount of power supplied to the processing nodes of the RIHS based on the power-usage data and operating parameters for the processing nodes and a total amount of available power for distribution within the RIHS. In response to detecting a condition that reduces the total amount of available power for distribution within the IHS, the management controller autonomously initiates global throttling of the processing nodes within the IHS to reduce power consumption by at least one of the processing nodes. The global throttling is completed via a signal transfer over a select Ethernet cable wire to connected block controllers that control the processing nodes.

Global throttling of computing nodes in a modular, rack-configured information handling system

A rack-based information handling system (IHS) includes a rack having a modular structure that supports insertion from a front of the rack of different numbers and sizes of information technology (IT) gear to create one or more IT nodes. Power bay chassis is received in the rack with a power distribution unit directed towards a rear of the rack. A modular busbar assembly is attached to the rear of the rack. A first vertical busbar segment is in direct electrical connection with the power distribution unit and spans one or more nodes to provide hot pluggable electrical power to an aft-directed connection of an IT node inserted into the rack. A second busbar segment can be attached to the first vertical busbar to electrically communicate with the power distribution unit and span an additional node adjacent to the one or more nodes to provide electrical power to the adjacent node.

Rack power distribution via modular, expandable bus bar for modular and scalable/expandable information handling system

A computer-implemented method controls liquid cooling of a direct injection liquid-cooled (DL) rack information handling system (RIHS). The method includes receiving, at a liquid cooling control subsystem, an incoming cooling liquid supply flow rate corresponding to an incoming cooling liquid supply being supplied to the DL RIHS. A maximum flow rate cap is calculated for each of the LC nodes. The maximum flow rate cap is transmitted to a controller for each of the LC nodes. The controller triggers each of the LC nodes to adjust the associated flow rate for that LC node to correspond to the received maximum flow rate cap for that node.

Liquid flow control management for shared infrastructure servers

A dew point of air entering an information handling system is determined based on the temperature and humidity of the air. Also determined is a temperature of facility cooling water entering the information handling system. A condensation mitigation procedure is activated if a difference between the temperature of the facility cooling water and the dew point temperature is less than a first threshold value. The condensation mitigation procedure includes reducing a flow-rate of the facility cooling water to a liquid manifold using a valve. The liquid manifold is in thermally-conductive contact with a heat-generating component included at the information handling system.

System and method for mitigating condensation in a liquid cooled information handling system

A Rack Information Handling System (RIHS) has a liquid cooling subsystem that provides cooling liquid to liquid cooled (LC) nodes received in chassis-receiving bays of a rack. Leak collection structures are positioned to receive cooling liquid that leaks from the liquid cooling subsystem. Liquid sensors detect a presence of leaked cooling liquid in the leak collection structures. A leak detection subsystem responds to a detected presence of liquid by providing a leak indication. In one or more embodiments, the liquid cooling subsystem has a liquid rail formed by more than one rack interconnections vertically aligned in a rear section of the rack that are connected by modular rail conduits for node-to-node fluid transfer. The leak collection structures include a pipe cover received over at least one modular rail conduit. A liquid cavity of each pipe cover spills over into another lower pipe cover at a rate that can be correlated to severity of the leak.
