A splitting head for a log splitting apparatus includes abutting primary and secondary splitting assemblies, each having a circular securing ring that holds wedge members having cutting edges directed toward the log. The cutting edges of the secondary assembly split into smaller pieces the pieces produced by the primary assembly, producing a bundle of elongated pieces of firewood in parallel array and wherein the center of the bundle has not been compressed.

The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus which utilizes a software-based digital signal processing circuit to generate a signal which is representative of the status of a movable component. A preferred embodiment of the apparatus of the present invention includes a synchro which is connected to a movable component. An analog reference excitation may be applied to the synchro, and the synchro generates analog synchro signals which bear a relationship to the status of the movable component. The analog synchro signals are converted to digital synchro signals by a plurality of analog-to-digital converters. A digital reference signal and the digital synchro signals are provided to a software-based digital signal processing circuit which preferably corrects constant and time-varying errors in the digital synchro signals and generates a status signal which is representative of the status of the movable component. For instance, the status signal may represent the angular position of the movable component. A different embodiment of the status signal may represent the angular velocity of the movable component.

An adjustable multi-wedge splitting head for a log splitting apparatus includes a vertically oriented stationary post securing a slideably positionable first multiple splitting wedge assembly, and a vertically oriented stationary splitting wedge mounted forwardly of the stationary post and securing a slideably positionable second multiple splitting wedge assembly. By selectively positioning the first and second multiple splitting wedge assemblies, logs may be split into 2, 4, 6 or 8 pieces of firewood.

Adjustable log splitting head

An adjustable multi-wedge splitting head for a log splitting apparatus equipped with a ram for axially advancing pre-cut logs toward the splitting head in a horizontal direction includes a vertically oriented stationary post and a stationary triangular splitting wedge disposed between the post and the log to be split. The post holds upper and lower multiple splitting wedge assemblies which can be slideably positioned on the post by hydraulic cylinder/piston units. The triangular splitting wedge severs a log into two pieces. The wedge assemblies then sever the initially produced two pieces into smaller pieces, the number of which corresponds to the number of blades in the assembly positioned to interact with the log.

A device which provides an escape route from a fire. In a first aspect, the present invention provides a directional fire hose which enables a person a person, even in a dark and smoke-filled environment caused by a fire, to follow the fire hose in a direction away from the fire and toward safety. In a second aspect, the invention provides a directional carpet which enables a person, even in a dark and smoke-filled environment, to escape from a burning house or building. The invention is particularly useful for volunteer fire-fighters, inexperienced fire-fighters, and crewmen on a seagoing vessel or platform at sea.

A toilet seat (12) usable for both handicapped and non-handicapped users is disclosed. A seat (20) is pivotally positioned atop seat (18) which in turn is pivotally connected to the toilet (14) by base member (16). The toilet seat may operate as an elevated seat with seat (20) in horizontal position or a standard elevation seat with seat (20) and vertical position, or, for cleaning, with both seats in a vertical position.
