An optimized system for providing medical support to a patient is disclosed. The system has a plurality of modular components that may be assembled to create a connection between a support machine and the patient wherein at least one of the modular components comprises an information tag for the storage of data and at least one of the modular components comprises an information sensor for the reading and transmission of the data. Once read and transmitted by the sensor, the data may be used to optimize the operation of the support machine.

A method of providing a recruitment procedure to a patient includes monitoring at least one derecruitment event. A score is calculated for the at least one derecruitment event. A derecruitment score is aggregated. The derecruitment score is compared to a recruitment threshold. A ventilator is operated with the processor to perform a recruitment procedure. A system for providing mechanical ventilation to a patient includes a mechanical ventilator configured for pneumatic connection to a patient in order to deliver medical gas to the patient. A peripheral system is configured to provide medical assistance to the patient and the peripheral system produces a signal indicative of the operation of the peripheral system. A processor is communicatively connected to the mechanical ventilator in the peripheral system. The processor receives the signal from the peripheral system and calculates a first score from the signal. The processor aggregates the first score into a derecruitment score and compares the derecruitment score to a predetermined threshold. The processor operates the mechanical ventilator to provide a recruitment procedure to the patient.

System and method of automated lung recruitment maneuvers

A vaporizer filling system includes a filler assembly, a sump, and a valve. The valve controls fluid communication into the sump. A retaining device retains the valve in an open position. A delay is connected to the retaining device. The delay controls the operation of the retaining device in order to retain the valve in the open position until the delay detects a release condition. The delay then controls the retaining device to release the valve. A method of filling a vaporizer includes engaging a bottle of liquid anesthetic agent with a filler assembly. The bottle and the filler assembly are moved from a first position to a second position. The bottle and filling assembly are locked in the second position with a retaining device. Then the retaining device is released and the bottle and filler assembly are returned to the first position.

A sound dampening apparatus to be disposed in pneumatic connection with a respiratory support system. The respiratory support system may comprise a source of medical gas, a plurality of pneumatic connections and a patient interface. The sound dampening apparatus comprises an inlet, an outlet, and an outer case which forms a sound dampening chamber. As the medical gas flows through the sound dampening apparatus, the noise energy associated with the flow of medical gas is reduced.

Apparatus and system for reducing mechanical ventilator noise

A system is disclosed to prevent the build up of pressure within a patient circuit when an oxygen flush is activated in a ventilator powered anesthesia system. In the event the user activates the oxygen flush at a time that the ventilator is in the inhalation cycle providing a breath to the patient, a valve is automatically opened to vent the patient circuit to the atmosphere, thereby preventing that additional oxygen flow to the patient circuit from resulting in an undesirable pressure build up that could affect the lungs of the patient.

Oxygen flush for anesthesia systems

A nitric oxide delivery system that is useable with any of a variety of gas delivery systems that provide breathing gas to a patient. The system detects the flow of gas delivered from the gas delivery system at various times and calculates the flow of a stream of nitric oxide in a diluent gas from a gas control valve. The flow of gas from the gas delivery system and the flow established from the flow control valve create a mixture having the desired concentration of nitric oxide for the patient. The system does not have to interrogate the particular gas delivery system being used but is an independent system that can be used with various flows, flow profiles and the like from gas delivery systems.

Nitric oxide delivery system

A thoracic drainage unit for removal of fluids from the thoracic cavity of a patient and/or to assist a patient in breathing comprises a collection chamber for receiving the fluids from the patient and an underwater seal located between the collection chamber and the patient. The underwater seal prevents pressure being applied to the thoracic cavity or backflow to that cavity. The water or other liquid for the seal is provided with the collection chamber as a complete unit ready for use. A collapsible bottle has a breakable neck that is readily broken by the user, whereupon the bottle is collapsed to force the liquid therein to create the liquid seal. A baffle is provided to prevent the liquid from reentering the bottle as it reexpands so that the precise needed volume of liquid is retained to create the seal. Also, the water seal is located in a particular location, and the underwater seal chamber is designed such that seal integrity is not lost upon tipping over the drainage unit; and the seal remains viable upon rerighting the unit. The underwater seal chamber is designed to allow viewing of an air leak from the patient, even through foaming or opaque fluid. Critical measurement area for collected fluids is provided, and hangers that can be used also as floor stand are included with unit.
