An apparatus includes a reaction vessels coupled to an electronic sensor for monitoring a reaction product in the reaction vessel; a fluidics system for sequentially delivering a plurality of reagents to the reaction vessel, the fluidics system including a plurality of reagent reservoirs in fluidic communication via a plurality of flow paths with a fluidics circuit and to a common passage in fluidic communication between the fluidics circuit and the reaction vessel, a solution reservoir in fluidic communication with the common passage via a branch passage connected with the common passage at a junction between the fluidics circuit and the reaction vessel; and an electrode in contact with a solution within the branch passage, the electrode being in electrical communication with the reaction vessel through fluid extending from the branch passage and through the common passage, the electronic sensor generating an output signal depending on a voltage of the electrode.

Embodiments disclose an apparatus and methods for biological sample processing enabling isolation and enrichment of microbial or pathogenic constituents from the sample. The invention is directed to apparatus and methods for delivering multiple reagents to, and monitoring, a plurality of analytical reactions carried out on a large-scale array of electronic sensors under minimal noise conditions. In one aspect, the invention provides method of improving signal-to-noise ratios of output signals from the electronic sensors sensing analytes or reaction byproducts by subtracting an average of output signals measured from neighboring sensors where analyte or reaction byproducts are absent. In other aspects, the invention provides an array of electronic sensors integrated with a microwell array for confining analytes and/or particles for analytical reactions and a method for identifying microwells containing analytes and/or particles by passing a sensor-active reagent over the array and correlating sensor response times to the presence or absence of analytes or particles. The chemical detection device may include a chemical sensor, which may be mounted on the chemical detection device. The apparatus may further comprise a valve block. The valve block may fluidly couple a plurality of reagent containers to the chemical detection device. The apparatus may further comprise a heat exchanger and a controller. The controller may control a fluid connection between the valve block and the chemical detection device. An emulsion-generating device is provided that can supply a continuous stream of an inverse emulsion to a thermal subsystem, in automated fashion. The ePCR subsystem can continuously thermocycle an inverse emulsion passed therethrough and includes static temperature zones and a consumable thermocycling plate. The continuous centrifugation subsystem can continuously break a thermally cycled inverse emulsion and collect template beads formed in the aqueous microreactor droplets of the inverse emulsion.
