Disclosed are stable polyurethane thickener compositions and methods for stabilizing such compositions. Stabilized microbicide compositions and methods for stabilizing such microbicides are disclosed. Also disclosed are stable polyurethane thickener compositions containing microbicides.

Disclosed is a stable dilute solution composition of a 3-isothiazolone compound selected from the group consisting of 5-chloro-2-methyl-3-isothiazolone, 2-methyl-3-isothiazolone, 5-chloro-2-ethyl-3-isothiazolone, 2-ethyl-3-isothiazolone, 4,5-dichloro-2-methyl-3-isothiazolone, and mixtures thereof in water having extremely low levels of copper ion and an oxidant.

Dilute aqueous solutions of about 0.5 to 5.0 parts by weight of at least one 3-isothiazolone compound comprising 5-chloro-2-methyl-3-isothiazolone, about 0.1 to 2.5 parts by weight of a stabilizing, water soluble, non-chelated ferric salt, and about 92 to 99 parts by weight of aqueous solvent, are also disclosed.
