A system for monitoring an electroencephalogram of a patient during administration of transcranial magnetic stimulation including a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) system, an electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring system, and a control system, coupled between the EEG system and the TMS system, that responds to signals provided by the EEG system and controls the TMS system wherein timing of operation of the TMS system does not need to be synchronized to timing of operation of the EEG system. A conductive plastic electrode system for use with the EEG monitoring system is also provided.

A method and apparatus for monitoring a magnetic resonance image of a patient during administration of transcranial magnetic stimulation. The method includes the steps of applying transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to a patient using a probe that is substantially constructed of non-ferromagnetic material, monitoring a magnetic resonance image (MRI) of the patient during TMS wherein application of the TMS does not need to by synchronized to monitoring of the MRI.

Method and apparatus for monitoring a magnetic resonance image during transcranial magnetic stimulation

A method and apparatus for recording an electroencephalogram (EEG) during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Nonmagnetic electrodes are attached to a patient's scalp. EEG signals are multiplexed, amplified, and transmitted to an EEG machine or a personal computer located outside the MRI room. By reducing the amount of magnetic metal and radio frequency generating equipment associated with the recording of the EEG that is within the bore of the MRI magnet, and moving all significant radio frequency generating equipment outside the MRI room, EEG signals can be recorded and MRI images can be obtained simultaneously. The EEG signals are analyzed and, in response to a predetermined pattern, the MRI machine is triggered.

A topographic map and method of mapping brain electrical activity including a first set of points representative of electrical activity occurring in a mesial temporal region of a left brain hemisphere and a second set of points representative of electrical activity occurring in a mesial temporal region of a right brain hemisphere are displayed adjacent and a third set of points representative of electrical activity occurring in a mid-line region of a left brain hemisphere and a fourth set of points representative of electrical activity occurring in a mid-line region of a right brain hemisphere are displayed remote. The respective locations of the first and third sets of points are displayed substantially as a mirror image of the respective locations of the second and fourth sets of points.

A system for remontaging EEG signals includes acquiring a first set of bipolar signals in a first montage defined by the locations of electrodes on a patient, synthesizing a second set of bipolar signals corresponding to a second montage defined by the electrode locations, and displaying, printing, or recording the second set of signals. Preferably, the first set of bipolar signals is converted to a set of monopolar signals, from which bipolar signals corresponding to any desired montage defined by the electrode location may be synthesized. This system permits remontaging of signals without the drawbacks of existing remontaging systems, which use monopolar signal acquisition.

An ambulatory electroencephalography (EEG) system includes a self-powered recording apparatus adapted to be worn by a patient. The recording apparatus includes an A/D converter and a digital memory capable of storing digital data representing analog waveform signals derived from a large number of electrodes secured to the patient. Recording of digital waveform data is governed by a controller, which upon the occurrence of a neurologically significant event (such as actuation of a switch by the patient or detection of EEG waveforms indicating a seizure state) causes the storage of waveform data over an interval immediately preceding the event and immediately following the event.
