An induction motor rotor comprises a rotor shaft, a rotor core, which may be solid or may include a plurality of rotor laminations, having rotor bar slots, a plurality of rotor bars extending through the rotor bar slots, and two rotor end rings brazed to the rotor bars and extending to the rotor shaft, the rotor bars and rotor end rings pre-stressing the rotor core.

High speed induction motor rotor and method of fabrication

A process for the manufacture of repair material. The repair material is ductile and readily mechanically deformed and can be used in the repair of turbine components. The process comprises providing a directionally solidified material, cold-swaging the directionally solidified material, and heat treating the cold-swaged material into the repair material. The repair material, after the steps of cold-swaging and heat treatment, comprises a microstructure that is essentially free from cracks, for repairing the turbine component. The invention also sets forth methods for repair of articles, such as turbine components, using the repair material, and a turbine component repaired using the repair material.

Fabrication method for high speed induction motor rotor

An induction motor rotor comprises a rotor shaft (12), a rotor core (14), which may be solid (114) or may include a plurality of rotor laminations (13), having rotor bar slots (15), a plurality of rotor bars (16) extending through the rotor bar slots, and two rotor end rings (18) brazed to the rotor bars and extending to the rotor shaft, the rotor bars and rotor end rings pre-stressing the rotor core.

Methods of making cylindrical structures with cooling channels, such as, for example, combustor/transition pieces for gas turbines having a double wall with a plurality of cooling channels, both axially and, in some cases, circumferential cross-flow passages positioned between the structure's inner member and the outer member to provide cooling air thereto, are disclosed. The cooling channels are formed in the area between the inner member of the structure and the outer member thereof. The passages preferably extend both axially and circumferentially with respect to the direction of flow through the structure. The axial passages extend completely from one end to the other and the circumferential passages extend around the circumference of the structure.

Method for making cylindrical structures with cooling channels

Two-phase Al--Si alloy foils are made directly from Al--Si alloy powders by hot pressing. These Al--Si alloy foils are characterized by having a thickness of 0.017 in. or less, and by the fact that they are fine-grained and substantially free of oxygen, nitrogen and deformation-induced defects. The as-pressed Al--Si foils where the primary phase is the Al solid-solution phase are also generally ductile and adapted for subsequent forming operations, including cold rolling. The reduction in thickness imparted in a single pass to an Al-11.6Si alloy foil through cold-rolling was at least about 10%, with up to about 90% reduction in thickness accomplished by a plurality of such passes. These reductions in thickness were accomplished without stress relief annealing, but such annealing may be employed if desirable for microstructural modification.

Aluminum-silicon alloy foils

Methods of making an improved high performance x-ray system having a rotating anode therein are available. The anode includes an improved target/stem connection which reduces tube failure due to anode assembly imbalance. Methods of bonding a metallic target and a metal stem to form a composite rotating x-ray tube target are also available. In these procedures an insert of an alloy, for example, tantalum or its alloys , is placed between the target and the niobium-alloy stem and then bonded thereto to produce a composite x-ray tube target/stem having a high remelt temperature and bond strength which retains its balance throughout the manufacturing process and during x-ray tube operations.

Method of making an improved target/stem connection for x-ray tube anode

Metal alloy foils are made directly from metal alloy powders by hot pressing. These metal alloy foils are characterized by having a thickness of 0.017 in. or less, and by the fact that they are fine-grained and substantially free of oxygen, nitrogen and deformation-induced defects. In particular, Ti-base alloy foils having an average thickness of about 0.011 in. have been formed directly from Ti-base alloy powders. These as-pressed Ti-base alloy foils are also ductile and adapted for subsequent forming operations, including cold rolling. The deformation which may be imparted in a single pass through cold-rolling to these Ti-base alloy foils is at least about 5%, with up to about 45% deformation imparted to one of these alloys in multiple passes without stress relief annealing. Total reductions in thickness of up to 90% are achieved by a combination of cold-rolling and stress relief annealing.

Metal alloy foils

Ni-base alloy foils are made directly from Ni-base alloy powders by hot pressing. These Ni-base alloy foils are characterized by having a thickness of 0.017 in. or less, and by the fact that they are fine-grained and substantially free of oxygen, nitrogen and deformation-induced defects. The as-pressed Ni-base foils are generally ductile and adapted for subsequent forming operations, including cold rolling. The reduction in thickness imparted in a single pass to a Ni-base alloy foil through cold-rolling ranged from 4-10% depending on the alloy composition. The total reduction in thickness ranged from about 10-50% based upon a plurality of such passes. For reductions in thickness greater than about 10%, annealing is employed for stress relief.

Ni-base alloy foils

Composite structures having a higher density, stronger reinforcing niobium based alloy embedded within a lower density, lower strength niobium based alloy are provided. The matrix is preferably an alloy having a niobium and titanium base according to the expressions:
