Systems, devices, and methods for electrophysiological recording from the eye are disclosed herein. An electroretinography device can detect a biopotential signal from an eye of a subject and transmit the same to a processor. Embodiments of the present technology include one or more features directed to improving the use and operability of an electroretinography device. For example, the device can include features for (i) improving the quality of light stimulus delivered to the eye or (ii) providing a better fit around the eye or a contact lens worn on the eye. These features can account for anatomical differences between different subjects by either masking or accommodating such differences.

Systems, devices, and methods for electrophysiological recording from the eye

Systems, devices, and methods for electrophysiological recording from the eye are disclosed herein. An electroretinography device can detect a biopotential signal from an eye of a subject and transmit the same to a processor. Embodiments of the present technology include one or more features directed to improving the use and operability of an electroretinography device. For example, the device can include a proximal inner surface having a recess feature for removing or receiving fluids trapped between the device and the eye. The recess feature can include one or more grooves, channels or textured surface designed to collect and direct fluids away from the space between the device and the eye. The number, shape, size, position, orientation, and other features of the grooves and channels can be varied.

The present disclosure provides electroretinography devices configured to detect biopotential signals from an eye of a subject. In some embodiments, the device is configured to prevent the subject's eyelids from closing over the device when placed in contact with the anterior surface of the subject's eye. In some embodiments, the device has a Young's modulus of no more than about 50 MPa. In some embodiments, the device includes a diffusing or refracting element configured to scatter, focus or diverge incident light. In other embodiments, the device includes a void through which incident light can enter the subject's eye without passing through any portion of the device.

Device for electrophysiological recording from the eye

A pixel light source apparatus, system and method are disclosed for a stimulus source for visual pathway testing. A representative system includes a plurality of pixel light sources and a control and driver circuit. The pixel light sources are coupled to each other to form a partially-spherical dome, with each pixel light source arranged to emit light directed to a convergent location of the partially-spherical dome. The control and driver circuit implements a selected stimulus protocol to selectively energize each pixel light source to generate light stimulation to any arbitrary or selected portion of the retina of an eye of a human subject. A representative pixel light source comprises at least one elongated and optically opaque side wall; a rear wall; an illumination source; a first optical element defining a first light chamber; and a second optical element defining a second light chamber.

Pixelated, full-field multi-protocol stimulus source apparatus, method and system for probing visual pathway function

A pattern stimulus system is described that includes a hemispherical concave surface, a plurality of illumination sources, and a controller. The illumination sources are arranged on the hemispherical concave surface in a plurality of annular rows and a plurality of radial columns. The control is configured to operate the illumination sources to display a checkerboard pattern by illuminating a first subset of the illumination sources and dimming a second subset of the illumination sources. The control is further configured to invert the checkerboard pattern by dimming the first subset of the illumination sources and illuminating the second subset of the illumination sources. Methods are also described for using the pattern stimulus system to evaluate a condition of the eye and to diagnose diseases of the eye.

Pattern stimulus for visual function testing

The present invention provides an electrode array device for simultaneously detecting electrical potentials at five or more locations on the anterior surface of an eye. The device comprises a dielectric lens substrate having a concave inner surface conforming to the anterior surface of the eye, and at least five recording electrodes positioned in relation to the inner surface of the lens substrate so as to make electrical connection with the anterior surface of the eye when the lens substrate is placed on the anterior surface of eye. Each recording electrode is in electrically conductive communication with a corresponding conductive contact, there being one conductive contact for each recording electrode. Each conductive contact is adapted for operable connection to signal processor, and each conductive contact is electrically insulated from the anterior surface of the eye. A computational method for analyzing electrophysiological potentials recorded at five or more locations on the anterior surface of the eye, which reflect the spatial distribution of activity of the retina, is also provided.

Apparatus and methods for mapping retinal function

A system and method for obtaining information about the spatial distribution of photoreceptor activity and neural activity in the retina using simultaneously recorded multiple biopotential signals. The information thus gathered is used to assess retinal dysfunction due to trauma or disease. The biopotential signals are recorded from the surface of the eye and head using a plurality of electrodes, including those integral to a contact lens. The biopotential signals are recorded before, during and after the presentation of an optical stimulus to the subject eye. The recorded biopotential signals are then analyzed and interpreted to reveal the distribution of photoreceptor activity and neural activity across the retina. The analysis and interpretation of the biopotential signals is quantitative, and makes use of an electromagnetic model of the subject eye. The subject may be animal or human.
