A shipping fixture for a turbine lower casing includes a frame having a substantially rectangular shape including a pair of elongated, laterally-spaced side beams and a pair of transverse end beams. A first lateral support structure extends between the side beams at a first location corresponding to a first vertically-oriented joint between the turbine compressor casing section and the turbine combustor casing section; and a second lateral support structure includes support blocks mounted on the side beams at a second location corresponding to a second vertically-oriented joint between the turbine combustor casing section and the turbine stage casing section.

Gas turbine half-casing shipping fixture

A rotor of a turbomachine is provided. The rotor includes at least first and second rotor portions and at least first and second blades. The first and second rotor portions are configured to rotate about an axis. The first and second rotor portions have first and second rim portions, respectively, which are spaced a predetermined distance apart from one another and have a perimetrical slot therebetween. The first and second rim portions have first and second dovetail slots, respectively, extending therethrough communicating with the perimetrical slot. The first and second blades have first and second dovetail portions, respectively. The first dovetail portion is disposed in one of the first and second dovetail slots, and the second dovetail portion is disposed in the other of the first and second dovetail slots. The perimetrical slot has a sufficient size to pass the first and second blades therethrough when the first and second blades are removed from the rotor.

A system and a method to supply a coolant to a turbine bucket of a turbine. The system includes an extraction system configured to extract air from a main compressor airflow, a supply circuit, at least a part of which is disposed at an exterior of the gas turbine, coupled to the extraction system and configured to transport the extracted air, as an ingredient of the coolant, from the extraction system to a coolant insertion region, and a cooling system, disposed proximate to the coolant insertion region of the gas turbine and coupled to the supply circuit at a position on-board the gas turbine, the cooling system being configured to supply the turbine bucket with the coolant, including the extracted air.

A cooling system for a turbine includes a blower configured to generate a cooling gas flow to be passed through a rotor cavity of the turbine; piping configured to deliver the cooling gas flow to the turbine; and at least one valve configured to control the cooling gas flow. The piping is operatively connected to the rotor of the turbine. A method of cooling a turbine includes generating a cooling gas flow with a blower to be passed through a rotor cavity of the turbine; and delivering the cooling gas flow to the turbine.

Apparatus and method for cooling a turbine

Stacked wheels of the rotor of a rotary machine are axially coupled to one another by tie bolt assemblies. Each tie bolt assembly includes a stud having forward and aft ends. The aft end of the stud includes a self-locking nut to thereby lock the stud/nut assembly against rotation relative to the rotor.

A turbine casing is provided in two casing halves joined one to the other along a horizontal splitline having flanges with spaced boltholes. A circumferentially extending rib is provided about each casing half at a location just forward of the turbine buckets to minimize or eliminate distortion caused by internal pressure and meridional roll of the casing. One or more axially extending ribs is provided on each casing half. The axial ribs have a radial stiffness which substantially matches the stiffness and thermal response of the flanges.

A heat shield mechanism for shielding a structure in a turbine engine having a sheet metal backing which is bonded to a plurality of honeycomb cells aligned in a radially outward manner toward a casing. The honeycomb cells and sheet metal backing form a heat shield which acts as a vortex destroyer by eliminating fluid flow around the turbine structure.

To cool the shroud in the high pressure turbine section of a gas turbine engine, high pressure cooling air is directed in metered flow to baffle plenums and thence through baffle perforations to impingement cool the shroud rails and back surface. Impingement cooling air then flows through elongated, convection cooling passages in the shroud and exits to flow along the shroud front surface with the main gas stream to provide film cooling. The baffle perforations and the convection cooling passages are interactively located to achieve maximum cooling benefit and highly efficient cooling air utilization.

To cool the shroud in the high pressure turbine section of a gas turbine engine, high pressure cooling air is directed in metered flow through channels, which include tapered enlargement frustroconical recuperators, to baffle plenums and thence through baffle perforations to impingement cool the shroud rails and back surface. The baffle perforations and the convection cooling passages are interactively located to achieve maximum cooling benefit and highly efficient cooling air utilization.

An apparatus for effecting a seal between two structural components of a turbo machine or similar device comprises a leaf seal located in the space between the two components and a spring which continuously biases the leaf seal into a sealing position against the components regardless of the pressure differential across the leaf seal.

Leaf seals

A windage shield for use with a pair of annular members oriented in an abutting end-to-end arrangement to define one boundary of a fluid flow path, each of the members having a radially extending flange at their respecting abutting ends for coupling the members to each other. The flanges are coupled by a plurality of circumferentially spaced bolts having a head and a nut which protrude into the fluid flow path. The windage shield comprises an annular ring having a first surface with a plurality of circumferentially spaced arcuate grooves formed therein. Each of the grooves is shaped to receive a preselected number of the bolt heads when the ring is positioned against a corresponding flange. A second surface of the ring opposite the first surface includes a plurality of apertures extending through the ring to the first surface with each of the apertures being located between a respective adjacent pair of the arcuate grooves. Each aperture has a countersunk portion on the second surface. The shield is attached to the flange by passing at least some of the bolts through the apertures with the bolt heads recessed in the countersunk portion such that a top of the bolts is flush with the second surface. The other bolt heads are contained within the arcuate grooves on the first surface of the ring.
