A bag for storing blood platelets consisting of a sterilizable, flexible closed polyolefin container having at least two inlets at the top thereof forming part of said closed container, each of the inlets being hermetically enclosed by a bag-like protective closure that is integral with the bag and formed by heat-sealing oxidized surfaces of polyolefin so that the seal is peelably separable to expose each of the inlets. There is further provided a burstable seal below at least one of the inlets.

The present invention is directed to a process for preparing an iron complex with polymeric polyhydroxy compounds such as dextran, hydrogenated dextran, dextrin, carboxyalkyl dextran, carboxyalkyl cellulose, alginates and the like, and therapeutic preparations thereof. The invention also relates to the products obtained, and to their administration to warm-blooded mammals.

Bag for storing blood components, preferably frozen red blood cells, including an inlet fitment having a neck provided with an enlarged portion on its outer diameter, composed of polyethylene. A novel connection is provided for linking this fitment to a polyvinyl chloride tube, whereby the blood storage bag may be interconnected with a variety of other blood storage or treatment devices. In the preferred form, the bag is combined with a glycerolizing set consisting of a first flexible resilient polyvinyl chloride tube adapted sealingly to mate with the inlet protrusion of the bag and to communicate with a 'Y' connector, which connector further communicates with a glycerin container and with a container of red blood cells. A novel polyvinyl chloride sleeve structure is provided for securing the polyvinyl chloride tubing firmly on the polyethylene fitment of the bag.

Blood component storage bag and glycerolizing set therefor

Bag for storing blood components, preferably frozen red blood cells, including specifically an inlet-outlet fitment, the inlet consisting of a hollow outward protrusion with a circumferential raised portion on its outer diameter adapted to sealingly receive a flexible tube whereby the bag may be interconnected with a variety of other blood storage or treatment devices. In the preferred form of this invention, the bag is combined with a glycerolizing set consisting of a first flexible resilient tube adapted to sealingly mate with the inlet protrusion of the bag and communicate with a Y connector, which connector further communicates through second and third resilient tubes with a drip chamber connected to a hollow spike for puncturing a container such as a glycerin container and with a second hollow spike for puncturing a container, such as a container of red blood cells, and for drawing fluid therefrom. The tubes connected to the Y connector may include a means external thereof for restricting fluid flow therein to facilitate use of the apparatus.
