A gas purification process for treating a gas stream includes supplying the gas stream to at least one membrane unit to produce a permeate stream and a retentate stream. The retentate stream contains a lower concentration of at least one of water, hydrogen sulfide, or carbon dioxide as compared to the gas stream. The retentate stream is supplied to a molecular sieve unit to remove hydrogen sulfide to produce a treated gas product stream.

Process and apparatus for removing contaminants from a gas stream

Hydrogen generators and integrated hydrogen generator/fuel cells systems are operated by determining the condition of the hydrogen generator and the condition of the fuel to the hydrogen generator for selection of predetermined flow rates for each of the externally-provided raw materials. The processes of the invention can provide rapid transitions between hydrogen production rates while enabling enhanced efficiency and stability during transient operations.

Feedforward control processes for variable output hydrogen generators

A process, control system and apparatus for controlling the air side flows to the major components of a fuel processor apparatus are provided. The control system employs a multi-capacity blower provides process air to a partial oxidation reactor and a preferential oxidation reactor. The multi-capacity blower preferably provides a portion of the process air through a control valve to the partial oxidation reactor and the remaining portion of the process air is passed through a flow restrictor to supply process air to the preferential oxidation reactor. The control system of the present invention is simple, low cost and reliable.

Process, control system and apparatus for the distribution of air in a fuel cell/fuel processor system

The desulfurization reactor assembly is comprised of two sections. The first section comprises a plenum base having channels therein for inflow and outflow of vapor to be reacted with the channels traversing a chamber within the plenum base through which heating medium travels. The second section includes two pieces comprising a shell engageable to the plenum base within which is seated a self-sealing sorbent vessel having channels for receiving vapor inflow from and providing reacted vapor outflow to the respective channels of the plenum base, with the canister shell providing a continuation for passage of heating medium from the plenum base therethrough. The assembly is structured to produce sealing of the vapor channels in the sorbent vessel when the vessel is removed from engagement with the plenum base.

The present invention relates to an improvement of integrated fuel processor and fuel cell systems which improves stability of operation, simplifies control, and improves the heat recovery. According to the invention, a reforming zone is heated by indirect heat exchange with a first combustion effluent stream and provides a cooled first combustion effluent stream. The cooled combustion effluent stream is reheated in at least an additional combustion zone with at least a portion of the anode waste gas from the fuel cell to provide a reheated combustion effluent stream. The reheated combustion effluent stream is employed to further heat the reforming zone.
