An electric drive module for transferring torque to wheels of a motor vehicle a planetary gearset having a first member driven by the rotor and a second member. A synchronizer restricts a third member of the planetary gearset from rotation when the electric drive module operates at a first drive ratio. The synchronizer transfers energy from the rotating rotor to the third member during a shift between the first drive ratio and a second drive ratio to match the rotational speeds of the rotor and the second member. A reduction unit includes an input member being driven by the second member and also includes an output member driven at a reduced speed relative to the input member. A differential assembly includes an input driven by the output member, a first differential output driving a first output shaft, and a second differential output driving a second output shaft.

Multi-speed transaxle for electric and hybrid vehicle application

An electric drive module for a motor vehicle includes an electric motor, a first input member, a first output member and a two-speed module selectively drivingly interconnecting the first input member and the first output member at one of two different drive ratios. A reduction unit includes a second input member being driven by the first output member and has a second output member being driven at a reduced speed relative to the second input member. A differential assembly has an input driven by said second output member. A first differential output drives a first output shaft, and a second differential output drives a second output shaft.

Two-speed electric drive module for electric and hybrid vehicles

A power transfer mechanism includes a shift mechanism translating a shift sleeve to a first position where an input shaft is directly drivingly coupled to a first output shaft and to a second position where a reduced speed drive ratio connection exists between the input shaft and the first output shaft as well as the input shaft and a second output shaft via a first planetary gearset. The shift system includes a second planetary gearset having a planet gear fixed for rotation with a lead screw threadingly engaged with the shift sleeve. Rotation of the planet gear axially translates the shift sleeve. A first clamp arm restricts rotation of one member of the second planetary gearset to cause rotation of the planet gear in a first direction. A second clamp arm restricts rotation of another member of the planetary gearset to rotate the planet gear in an opposite direction.

A trailer includes a pair of wheels rotatably coupled to a trailer frame. A motor is operable to provide drive torque to at least one of the wheels. The energy storage device is mounted to the frame and operable to selectively provide energy to the motor. A load sensor is operable to output a signal indicative of the magnitude of a load being transferred between the trailer and a tow vehicle. A controller is operable to generate control signals in response to the sensor signal. The control signals control operation of the motor.

Hybrid drivetrains for trailers

An automated dual-clutch multi-speed transmission is adapted to transfer power from an engine to the driveline of a motor vehicle. The transmission includes an output shaft adapted for connection to the driveline, an input shaft continuously driven by the engine and offset from a position substantially parallel to the output shaft. A countershaft is in constant driving engagement with the output shaft and is offset from and positioned substantially parallel to the input and output shafts. A first clutch is operable for establishing a releasable drive connection between the input shaft and a first driven shaft. A second clutch is operable for establishing a releasable drive connection between the input shaft and a second driven shaft. First and second gearset clutches are operable to releasably drivingly couple first and second gearsets to the countershaft.

Dual clutch powershift transmission

A dual-clutch transmission for use in a motor vehicle having an engine and a driveline includes an output shaft adapted for connection to the driveline and a planetary gearset in constant driving engagement with the output shaft. An input shaft is driven by the engine. A first constant mesh gearset is in selective driving communication with a first member of the planetary gearset. A second constant mesh gearset is in selective driving communication with a second member of the planetary gearset. A first clutch is operable for establishing a releasable drive connection between the input shaft and the first constant mesh gearset. A second clutch is operable for establishing a releasable drive connection between the input shaft and the second constant mesh gearset. A motor is selectively drivingly coupled to a third member of the planetary gearset.

Dual clutch hybrid powershift transmission

An automated triple-clutch multi-speed transmission is adapted to transfer power from the engine to the driveline of a motor vehicle. The transmission includes a first clutch operable for establishing a releasable drive connection between an input shaft and a first shaft, a second clutch operable for establishing a releasable drive connection between the input shaft and a second shaft and a third clutch operable for establishing a releasable drive connection between the input shaft and a third shaft. A first constant mesh gearset is driven by the first shaft. A second constant mesh gearset is driven by the second shaft. A third constant mesh gearset is driven by the third shaft. First, second and third gearset clutches are operable for releasably drivingly coupling the first, second and third gearsets to a countershaft which, in turn, drives an output shaft.

A dual-clutch powershift transmission for use in a motor vehicle having an engine and a driveline includes an output shaft adapted for connection to the driveline, first and second input shafts, a first engine clutch operable for establishing a releaseable drive connection between the engine and the first input shaft and a second engine clutch operable for establishing a releasable drive connection between the engine shaft and the second input shaft. A first constant-mesh gearset is driven by the first input shaft. A second constant-mesh gearset is driven by the second input shaft. A first shift clutch releasably engages the first gearset to establish a drive connection between the first input shaft and the output shaft. A second shift clutch releasably engages the second gearset to establish a drive connection between the second input shaft and the output shaft.

A drive axle assembly for an all-wheel drive vehicle includes an adaptively controlled first hydraulic coupling for providing front-to-rear torque transfer control to a first wheel and an adaptively controlled second hydraulic coupling for providing front-to-rear torque control to a second wheel. The drive axle assembly is contained with a common housing and communicates with a traction control system to actively control actuation of the first and second hydraulic couplings based on the operating characteristics of the vehicle as detected by suitable sensors.

An automated multi-speed transmission includes an engine clutch operable to establish a releasable drive connection between the engine and an input shaft, an output shaft adapted to transfer power to the driveline, and a synchromesh geartrain having a plurality of constant-mesh gearsets that can be selectively engaged to establish a plurality of forward and reverse speed ratios. The transmission also includes power-operated dog clutches for selectively engaging the constant-mesh gearsets, and a controller for controlling coordinated actuation of the engine clutch and the power-operated dog clutches. The power-operated dog clutch associated with the low and the top gear are used during downshifts and upshifts, respectively, to actuate a clutch assembly for synchronizing the speed of the input shaft and the selected gear prior to engagement of its corresponding dog clutch.

A compact manual transaxle includes an input shaft having a fixed transfer gear, a reduction shaft having two reduction gears, one of which meshing with the transfer gear, a mainshaft having three input gears and an output shaft supporting three speed gears meshing with the three input gears. The transaxle further includes a pair of synchronizer clutches for establishing a direct and a reduction gearset flow path, and a pair of synchronizer clutches for establishing the forward gear speed ratios by selectively coupling the three speed gears to the output shaft. A reverse gear assembly is provided for establishing a reverse gear. A locking mechanism is provided for selectively inhibiting rotation of a carrier assembly of the reverse gear assembly so as to cause the output to be driven in an opposite direction relative to the input for providing a reverse gear.
