The present invention provides an improved method for estimating range of objects in images from various distances comprising receiving a set of images of the scene having multiple objects from at least one camera in motion. Due to the motion of the camera, each of the images are obtained at different camera locations. Then an object visible in multiple images is selected. Data related to approximate camera positions and orientations and the images of the visible object are used to estimate the location of the object relative to a reference coordinate system. Based on the computed data, a projected location of the visible object is computed and the orientation angle of the camera for each image is refined. Additionally, pairs of cameras with various locations can obtain dense stereo for regions of the image at various ranges.

System and method for providing mobile range sensing

A visual odometry system and method for a fixed or known calibration of an arbitrary number of cameras in monocular configuration is provided. Images collected from each of the cameras in this distributed aperture system have negligible or absolutely no overlap. The relative pose and configuration of the cameras with respect to each other are assumed to be known and provide a means for determining the three-dimensional poses of all the cameras constrained in any given single camera pose. The cameras may be arranged in different configurations for different applications and are made suitable for mounting on a vehicle or person undergoing general motion. A complete parallel architecture is provided in conjunction with the implementation of the visual odometry method, so that real-time processing can be achieved on a multi-CPU system.

System and method for multi-camera visual odometry

The present invention provides a collision avoidance apparatus and method employing stereo vision applications for adaptive vehicular control. The stereo vision applications are comprised of a road detection function and a vehicle detection and tracking function. The road detection function makes use of three-dimensional point data, computed from stereo image data, to locate the road surface ahead of a host vehicle. Information gathered by the road detection function is used to guide the vehicle detection and tracking function, which provides lead motion data to a vehicular control system of the collision avoidance apparatus. Similar to the road detection function, stereo image data is used by the vehicle detection and tracking function to determine the depth of image scene features, thereby providing a robust means for identifying potential lead vehicles in a headway direction of the host vehicle.

Apparatus and method for object detection and tracking and roadway awareness using stereo cameras

The present invention provides an improved system and method for estimating range of the objects in the images from various distances. The process is further structured so that as new images arrive, they are incorporated into the pose adjustment so that the dense stereo results can be updated.

A cathode ray tube deflection yoke is provided wherein the deflection yoke includes a plurality of deflection coils. One or more of the deflection coils have a non-constant distribution of turns, whereby an electron beam passing through the deflection yoke is deflected by a magnetic field that varies according to different numbers of turns relative to position of electrons of the electron beam between the entrance and exit of the deflection yoke. The non-constant turns distribution may be linear or non-linear, may be monotonic or non-monotonic, and/or may have a positive or negative turns bias, either in whole or in part. The horizontal deflection coil and/or the vertical deflection coil, or both, may have a non-constant turns distribution.

Cathode ray tube deflection yoke

A cathode ray tube includes an electron gun directing electrons away from a faceplate having an electrode biased at screen potential. A plurality of electrodes located on or near the rear wall of the tube envelope are biased at graduated potentials so that the electron beam is deflected by the electrostatic field produced thereby to impinge upon the faceplate. The electron beam is magnetically deflected over a relatively small angle as it exits the electron gun to scan across the faceplate to impinge upon phosphors thereon to produce light depicting an image or information. The electrodes may be biased at or below screen potential, with the electrode closest the electron gun typically biased at a negative or ground potential and the electrode closest the faceplate (i.e. distal the electron gun) typically biased below screen potential to direct electrons towards the faceplate, thereby to increase the landing angle thereof.

Fully oxidized cutback asphalts suitable for application in roofing, waterproofing, and sealing applications in all weather conditions, including as mastics and other sealants. Compositions according to the invention comprise unprecedented proportions of solids and asphalts yet remain workable to temperatures as low as 20&deg; F. or below. In addition to fully-oxidized roofing-grade asphalts, preferred compositions according to the invention also comprise hydrophobic agents selected from the group comprising fatty acids and amine compounds and may be applied in rain or other wet conditions, and include polybutene or fatty acid peptizers to control the glass transition temperature of the completed mastic and thereby permit application of the composition at extremely low temperatures. Preferred embodiments optionally also comprise fillers such as cellulose fibers, diatomaceous earth, limestone, and asbestos for various advantageous purposes.

Oxidized all-weather cutback asphalts

A reflective asphalt emulsion is formed by dispersing asphalt into a slurry of colloidal clay at high shear and thereafter blending titanium dioxide and diatomaceous earth filler, and optionally acrylic latex, at low shear into the emulsion of clay and asphalt to form a white to light gray emulsion having a soft consistency and good shelf life. Particle sizes of the employed asphalt are controlled in order to preserve reflectivity of the finished emulsion.

Method and apparatus for production of asphalt coated sheets comprising materials highly prone to distortion under heat, including polyester and similarly deformable materials, in a coating machine comprising a mat puller adapted to pull the mat at a selectable rate, a coater, and a metering device. The metering device is optionally adapted to pull the mat at a selectable rate. The mat is pulled through the coater and coated with asphalt heated to 250&deg; F. to 500&deg; F., while the rates at which the mat puller and metering device pull the mat are independently and/or jointly adjusted to such that coated sheet may be produced at rates of more than 200 feet per minute, without wrinkling or necking in the mat.

Product and method for making an asphaltic emulsion enjoying the weather-resistant and durability advantages of a fully-oxidized asphaltic base. Preferred compositions according to the invention comprise a fully-oxidized asphalt having a softening point of between about 110.degree. F. and about 160.degree. F. and a slurry, the slurry comprising water, a colloidal clay (preferably bentonite clay), barium chloride, and citric acid. Optionally sodium dichromate, fillers such as cellulose fibers, and biocidal agents are added as well. The method for making such asphalts comprises oxidation of a flux asphalt in an air still, preparation of the slurry, and combination of the oxidized asphalt and the slurry in a high speed mixing machine such as a colloidal mill.

Oxidized asphalt emulsions

Process and composition for styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene (SEBS) block copolymer modified asphalt mixtures for use in roofing, sealing, paving, and waterproofing membranes. Powdered and pelletized SEBS is added to oxidized or unoxidized asphalt flux in high-shear processes, and is applied in hot and ambient uses such as cutbacks and emulsions, with or without added fillers, fibers, or other additives.

A plasticized SEBS compound is added to oxidized or unoxidized asphalt flux in either low-shear or high-shear processes, and is applied in hot and ambient uses such as cutbacks and emulsions, with or without added fillers, fibers, or other additives.
