A protective cover for use on one or more saw blades. An insert can be positioned on the saw blade(s). The cover is formed from a heat shrinking material that is shrunk around the saw blade(s) to provide a thin close fitting cover that protects teeth on the saw blade(s). A tag can be attached to the cover and/or saw blade(s) and/or an insert. The tag has a security device disposed thereon. The tag can be used to hang the saw blade(s) from a display device.

An improved circular saw blade designed for cutting fiber cement workpieces, which are becoming more and more prevalent on the construction site, includes a PCD/carbide tip () mounted in the rim () of the saw blade () at six, rather than the usual for locations, equally spaced around the blade. The tips are mounted adjacent a relatively large-diameter, semi-circular gullet (), which itself is preceded by a chip and dust minimizer (). The minimizer includes several alternating hills () and valleys () formed in the rim of the saw blade, each hill and valley having the same radius, producing a sinuous array essentially centered on the rim of the blade. It has been discovered that such a dust and chip minimizer reduces the level of dust and chips produced by the blade and clears the same from the kerf generated in the blade-workpiece interface. Ideally, all of the parameters and relief angles for the surfaces on the saw blade tip can be generated by cutting an array of such tips from a large-diameter blank () of PCD fused to a layer of tungsten carbide (), and by mounting the tips onto the blade in such an orientation as to present, preferably, a negative hook or rake angle () to the workpiece.

Method for packaging saw blades

A preformed heat shrinking protective cover for a saw blade includes first and second portions each having opposite inner and outer surfaces. The second portion extends from the first portion at an angle relative to the first portion. The first and second portions are configured and adapted for a saw blade to be positioned in contact with the inner surface of the first portion. The first and second portions are made from a heat shrinking material so that when heat is applied to the cover, the second portion shrinks and folds over the first portion with the inner surfaces facing each other and teeth on a saw blade can be retained between the first and second portions. The resulting cover is close fitting and reduces the overall thickness of a saw blade with a protective cover.

A spring loaded diamond shaped arbor for use in a saw blade. The arbor includes comprised of a diamond shaped plate having four peripheral side walls with four corners therebetween that separate the four side walls. The arbor has a central opening that is configured and adapted to allow the arbor to be attached to a power tool. A slot extends from the central opening through one of the side walls or corners so that the arbor can easily be inserted into and removed from a saw blade. The slot allows the arbor to be compressed like a spring and be retained within the central opening in the saw blade.

A saw blade is stamped with a circumferential edge. At least one gullet and shoulder are formed in the circumferential edge. Likewise, a tooth pocket is formed in the circumferential edge. The tooth pocket is defined by a wall, generally radial to circle, on the shoulder, and a shelf substantially perpendicular to the wall. A tooth is secured, ordinarily by brazing, in the pocket such that a portion of the shelf extends beyond the front face of the tooth towards the gullet so that the tooth can be brazed along its entire lateral edge such that resultant forces in the tooth are transmitted to the body of the blade. After the tooth is positioned into the tooth pocket, the tooth, as well as a projection of the blade shoulder, are ground off so that the tooth and shoulder are flush with one another. Thus, the tooth longitudinal edge is in complete contact with the shoulder wall maximizing its strength.

A saw blade is stamped with a circumferential edge. At least one deep gullet and shoulder are formed in the circumferential edge. Likewise, a tooth pocket is formed in the circumferential edge. The tooth pocket is defined by a wall, generally radial to circle, on the shoulder, and a shelf substantially perpendicular to the wall. A tooth is secured, ordinarily by brazing, in the pocket such that the thickness of the tooth is substantially equal to the depth of the shelf and the face of the tooth is continuous with the gullet. The tooth may be brazed along its entire lateral edge such that resultant forces in the tooth are transmitted to the body of the blade. After the tooth is positioned into the tooth pocket, the tooth, as well as a projection of the blade shoulder, are ground off so that the tooth and shoulder are flush with one another. Thus, the tooth longitudinal edge is in complete contact with the shoulder wall maximizing its strength.
