An acoustic enclosure includes a housing at least partially defining an acoustic chamber for an acoustic radiator. The housing further defines an acoustic opening from the acoustic chamber to a surrounding environment. The acoustic enclosure also has a first acoustic resonator and a second acoustic resonator. The first acoustic resonator and the second acoustic resonator are acoustically coupled with the acoustic chamber in parallel relative to each other. Each of the first acoustic resonator and the second acoustic resonator modifies a frequency response of the acoustic chamber. Loudspeakers can include such an enclosure acoustically excited or driven by an electro-acoustic transducer. As well, an electronic device can include such a loudspeaker.

An earbud tip for an in-ear headphone can include an outer body; an inner tube extending at least partially within the outer body, the tube having opposing first and second ends and first and second openings at the opposing first and second ends, respectively, the first opening configured to emit audio signals provided by a speaker of an in-ear headphone into a user's ear canal during operation of the in-ear headphone and when the earbud tip seals the user's ear canal and the second opening configured to be removably coupled to a portion of the in-ear headphone; and one or more channels extending from an outer periphery of the earbud tip to the inner tube.

An enclosure for a speaker transducer can have a front housing member and a rear housing member. Some enclosures position the speaker transducer between the front housing member and the rear housing member, and spaced apart from the rear housing member to define a rear chamber positioned between the speaker transducer and the rear housing member. The rear housing member can define a longitudinal axis. A first waveguide member and a second waveguide member can be longitudinally spaced apart from each other to define an acoustic waveguide therebetween oriented transversely relative to the longitudinal axis. A port can acoustically couple the acoustic waveguide with the rear chamber. A cross-sectional area of the waveguide can expand radially outward of the port. And, the acoustic waveguide can extend circumferentially around the longitudinal axis more than 90-degrees. Some embodiments include a speaker transducer and are suitable as a headphone.

Vented acoustic enclosures and related systems

Limiting the sound pressure level presented to the listener's ears by one or more headphones, using processing capabilities of a personal media device. Headphones, coupled to audio signals from a personal media device, include a sensor to measure the sound pressure level presented to the listener's ears, and provide that measure to the personal media device. The personal media device, optionally aided by one or more analog circuits, adjusts the audio signal so that the sound pressure level is maintained within a recommended range.

Optimized sound waves presented to the listener by headphones, notwithstanding differences in ear geometry and headphone positioning. A test signal causes an acoustic sensor to receive sound waves actually formed in the listener's ear cavity. A response from the sensor is compared with an expected ear cavity transfer function, from which desired adjustments to the audio signal are determined. The audio signal might be received from an application program, calibrated by an interface software element, and adjusted thereby, before forwarding to the headphones. Calibration might be performed from when the headphones are positioned, or dynamically in response to changes in the transfer function.

Various aspects of this disclosure are directed to an earphone device comprising a speaker unit including at least one balanced armature transducer to convert an electrical signal into an acoustic signal. The electrical signal may define a frequency range comprising a first frequency and a second frequency. The earphone device may further comprise an impedance correction unit configured to receive the electrical signal and compliment an impedance of the speaker unit such that a sum of an impedance of the impedance correction unit and the impedance of the speaker unit at the first frequency is substantially similar to a sum of an impedance of the impedance correction unit and the impedance of the speaker unit at the second frequency.
