A method and system for wireless communication in a wireless communication network. The wireless communication network has a first mobile terminal and a second mobile terminal arranged in virtual multiple input, multiple output ('V-MIMO') communication with a base station. A first wireless communication uplink channel corresponding to the first mobile terminal is estimated. The estimate is based on a first reference symbol signal and the cancellation of interference from a second reference symbol signal received from the second mobile terminal. A second wireless communication uplink channel corresponding to the second mobile terminal is estimated. The estimate is based on the second reference symbol signal and the cancellation of interference from the first reference symbol signal received from the first mobile terminal. The estimated first wireless communication uplink channel is used to demodulate a first data signal received from the first wireless device, and the estimated second wireless communication uplink channel is used to demodulate a second data signal received from the second wireless device.

A method for channel estimation includes receiving data at a number of frequency intervals in a frequency band over a number of first time intervals. A first set of channel estimates is determined for each pilot symbol within the data over a second time interval comprising at least one first time interval, and time-direction interpolation is performed to determine a second set of channel estimates for a number of data portions in a frequency interval using the first set of channel estimates. The frequency interval comprises a data portion comprising a pilot symbol. Frequency-direction interpolation is performed to determine a third set of channel estimates for each first time interval. The time-direction interpolation and the frequency-direction interpolation can be performed in reverse order with the channel estimates generated by the frequency-direction interpolation being used as inputs for time-direction interpolation.

System and method for channel estimation

A method and system for wireless communication channel estimation. A frequency offset hypothesis is determined. An interchannel interference ('ICI') matrix based on the frequency offset hypothesis is generated. Pilot channel estimates based on the ICI matrix are obtained. A correlation error of the pilot channel estimates to the frequency offset hypothesis is calculated. The correlation error is compared with a predetermined correlation error value. The frequency offset hypothesis is updated and the aforementioned steps are iteratively repeated if the correlation error is greater than the predetermined correlation error value. The pilot channel estimates are used to estimate the wireless communication channel.
