A wireless remote controller includes a housing including front and rear enclosures defining a PCB cavity, a PCB disposed within the PCB cavity, a switch, communication circuitry to generate wireless signals, and a button to actuate the switch. The button includes a button body having a button portion and first and second button sidewalls having a retaining finger to engage the support board. The button width is substantially the same as the housing width. The wireless remote controller may include a mounting cavity formed in a rear surface of the housing which includes first and second converging cavity sidewall extending from a base. A mounting plate removably secures the wireless remote controller to a wall and includes first and second converging mount sidewalls each including a rail. The cavity sidewalls and the mount sidewalls include a first and second rail and a first and second channel.

An antenna assembly includes a radio frequency (RF) connector connected to a first end of a coaxial cable and a wire antenna attached to a second end of the coaxial cable. The wire antenna may be made of a shape memory alloy, such as nitinol. Examples of RF connectors include U.FL, IFEX, WAX, IPX, AMC, MHF and UMCC connectors that allow the wire antenna to be removably attached to a printed circuit board (PCB) of a lighting control device and to avoid hardwiring the antenna to the PCB. The device that includes the antenna assembly may be incorporated into a luminaire for wireless control of the luminaire. The lighting control device may be installed within the luminaire, such that the wire antenna is positioned between a light source and a diffuser. A number of such luminaires may be combined to provide an intelligent lighting system.

The connector plug has a central terminal configured for connection to a wireless transceiver, and an end of the wire antenna is inserted in the antenna receptacle. A method for performing out of band diagnostics and maintenance of lighting system elements. An out of band connection is established via a wireless out of band channel with one of the lighting system elements and the mobile device. The wireless out of band channel is separate and distinct from a wireless lighting operations channel of a wireless lighting control network connecting the lighting system elements.

Out of band diagnostics and maintenance

A light fixture includes a driver for driving a light engine based on control signals received from a controller coupled to the driver. The driver is further connected to an AC power source and is configured for detecting a power loss from the AC power source and generating a power loss signal. Upon detecting the power loss, the driver sends the power loss signal to the controller. Based on the power loss signal, the controller sends an emergency egress mode control signal to the driver which drives the light engine in the emergency egress mode, i.e. at its full intensity for an emergency time period. Upon expiration of the emergency time period or upon the recovery of the AC power, the controller exits the emergency egress mode by sending a normal control signal to the driver.

A method for selecting a lighting control group monitor does not require special device network configuration steps during manufacturing. The selected lighting control group monitor is determined based on a location of the lighting control group monitor relative to other lighting system elements within the lighting control group. One lighting system element most centrally located within the lighting control group is selected as the lighting control group monitor. A lighting control group network table listing an entry for each of the lighting system elements is modified such that the entry corresponding to the lighting control group monitor is the first entry in the lighting control group network table. The lighting control group network table is sent to the lighting control group monitor and the lighting control group monitor sends the lighting control group network table to the other lighting system elements in the lighting control group.

A method for commissioning a wireless lighting control system for network connectivity does not require special device network configuration steps during manufacturing. Network configuration happens dynamically and automatically during commissioning of a lighting control group. The method includes receiving at a mobile device an advertisement packet from each of a plurality of lighting control devices via a commissioning network. A commissioning network connection is established with each of the lighting control devices and the mobile device. A lighting control group network table listing an entry for each of the lighting control devices is built to establish the lighting control group that communicates over a lighting control network. The lighting control group network table is sent to a last lighting control device configured by the mobile device via the commissioning network. Receipt of the lighting control group network table readies the device to receive lighting control event messages for the group.

Protocol for out of band commissioning of lighting network element

A networked lighting control system includes a variety of lighting control devices, including intelligent luminaires, standalone intelligent control nodes, plug load controllers, and power packs that communicate over a wireless control network and a commissioning network. Each lighting control device includes a dual-band wireless radio communication interface system. The dual-band wireless radio communication interface system is configured for unicast and multicast communication over a first of two different wireless communication bands as well as point-to-point communication over a second wireless communication band. The standalone intelligence control node can be a wall switch or detector. Commissioning and provisioning of the lighting control system is performed over the second communication band via communications with a mobile device and lighting controls are carried out over the first communication band. The lighting control devices may be divided into light control groups or zones.

A system for lighting control including a monitor device, and a lighting system component configured as a luminaire or as a lighting control device for controlling a luminaire. The monitor device includes a wireless radio communication interface system configured for wireless communication over a diagnostic band, and a processor. The lighting system component includes a wireless radio communication interface system configured for wireless communication over the diagnostic band and a separate wireless lighting control network communication band, and a processor configured to obtain diagnostic data about the lighting system component, and transmit via the wireless radio communication interface over the diagnostic band, the diagnostic data to the monitor device.

A monitor lighting control device receives a state change event message that includes a payload specifying: (i) a state change event of an occupancy, audio, or daylight sensor, or a switch to turn lighting on/off, dim up/down, set scene or the like; (ii) an identifier of a member lighting control device that detected the state change event; and (iii) a lighting control group identifier of a lighting control group that includes the member lighting control device and the monitor lighting control device. The monitor lighting control device transmits an acknowledgement of receipt of the state change event message to the member lighting control device. The monitor lighting control device generates a state change multicast message that includes the state change event of the payload. Also, the monitor lighting control device transmits the generated state change multicast message to the lighting control group.
