A method for installing a sensor assembly in a fire hydrant includes sequentially feeding components of the sensor assembly through an aperture in an upper standpipe of the fire hydrant. The components of the sensor assembly include a sensor unit, a conduit coupled with the sensor unit and extending away therefrom, and a series of rigid tubes surrounding the conduit and arranged in an end-to-end manner. The conduit is fed through the aperture along with the series of rigid tubes, and at least one of the series of rigid tubes has a length greater than a diameter of an interior of the fire hydrant.

Method for installing a sensor conduit support in an internal structure

A sensor assembly includes a sensor unit including a generally rigid sensor housing and at least one electronic sensor component, a conduit coupled with the sensor unit and extending away from the sensor housing, and a rigid support structure supporting a portion of at least one of the conduit or the sensor housing at a first end adjacent the sensor unit and extending away from the sensor unit to a length of at least about 6 feet. The rigid support structure configured to maintain the sensor unit within an internal structure for monitoring using the electronic sensor component.

A device for transferring adverse event information from a plurality of remote hydrants to a municipal monitoring server comprises detecting an adverse event in a hydrant that relates to an adverse hydrant condition; transferring data representative of the adverse condition to a host server by routing the data along a predefined hopping path; and transferring the data from the host monitor to the municipal monitoring server. A remotely attended scale system for providing certified weighing services for a vehicle. The system having a plurality of weigh sites located remotely from one another and a weighmaster located at a central location. The weighmaster verifies proper placement of the vehicle upon the scale, may facilitate a normal weighing process, and may interact with the driver before issuing a certificate of weight. The method of the present invention includes steps of initiating a weigh cycle, delegating a weighmaster located at a central location for the weigh cycle, establishing communication between a driver and the weighmaster, weighing the vehicle, downloading weight information to the central location, and dispensing a certificate of weight at the weigh site.

System and method for providing certified weighing services at remotely attended scales

A vehicle trailing arm suspension has an axle mounted to a pair of trailing arms through axle-mounting assemblies that include one or two beam-axle connectors mounted to one of the arms through a bushed connection and connected to the axle through a collar that receives the axle. An elastomeric layer is positioned between the axle and the collar for articulation. Each beam-axle connector can include an arcuate plate at the other end thereof and through which the beam-axle connector is mounted to the axle through welding or a compression mounting. The compression mounting includes a hollow wrapper band under tension sufficient to compress the axle to prevent movement of the axle with respect to the wrapper band under ordinary service conditions. A radius tower can also be mounted to an axle through the hollow wrapper band.

A fluid-operated brake actuator having a check valve in the spring chamber to equalize the pressure on opposite sides of an operating movable diaphragm. The brake actuator comprises a service brake housing divided into first and second service chambers by a diaphragm or piston, and a spring brake housing arranged in tandem with and attached to the service brake housing, also divided into a first and second spring chambers by a diaphragm or piston. The check valve connecting the first and second spring chambers blocks flow between the first and second chambers when the second spring brake chamber is pressurized and opens up flow between the two chambers when the second spring chamber is depressurized.

An air-operated combination diaphragm spring brake has a tamper-resistant clamp provided between a head (46) and a spring side of a flange case (18) which together form a spring chamber (16) housing a power spring (72). The head (46) has an annular rim (70), and the flange case has an annular flange (74) with a diaphragm (48) sandwiched therebetween in an interface (76). An annular retaining member (78) has a lip (86) which tightly captures a step (80) on the annular rim as the annular retaining member (78) is drawn over the interface (76) to form the tamper-resistant clamp.

Tamper-resistant brake actuator

A height control valve with a spring return actuator for use in an air spring suspension has a damping chamber, an air control chamber and an actuator controlled spring return housing with mutually perpendicular lateral and axial bores. An actuator shaft extends into the damping chamber, the air control chamber and the lateral bore of the spring return housing. The spring return housing is rotatably mounted to the actuator shaft. A spring cup is reciprocably guided in the axial bore and is biased in contact with a flattened portion of the actuator shaft. The spring cup has two axially spaced cylindrical exterior surfaces of essentially zero draft angle and of slightly different diameter. The axial bore cylindrical surfaces are in registry with the spring cup cylindrical surface. The registering cylindrical surfaces of the spring cup and axial bore have dimensions of close correspondence to ensure a snug fit of the spring cup within the axial bore. A thin lubricating shim is provided between an actuator shaft and the interior walls of the air control chamber.

A vehicle suspension system for mounting ground-engaging wheels to a vehicle frame where two arms are secured to opposite sides of the frame and a wheel-carrying axle is suspended between the arms. The axle is secured to the arms by a wrapper plate partially surrounding the axle, and a bolt is utilized to compress the wrapper plate about the axle so that the wrapper plate supports and strengthens the axle. A plug weld is provided between the axle and the wrapper plate. The wrapper generally conforms to the profile of that portion of the axle which it surrounds. The axle can be square, round or D-shaped in cross-section.
