Multiple cameras in a conference room, each pointed in a different direction and including a microphone array to perform sound source localization (SSL). The SSL is used in combination with the video image to identify the speaker from among multiple individuals that appear in the video image. Neural network or machine learning processing is performed on the identified speaker to determine the quality of the front or facial view of the speaker. The best view of the speaker's face from the various cameras is selected to be provided to the far end. If no view is satisfactory, a default view is selected and that is provided to the far end. The use of the SSL allows selection of the proper individual from a group of individuals in the conference room, so that only the speaker's head is analyzed for the best facial view and then framed for transmission.

Intelligent multi-camera switching with machine learning

Utilizing two LTR frames for improved error recovery. By using two LTR frames, much better performance is achieved in terms of error recovery as the likelihood of the decoder having one of the two LTR frames is very high. When the decoder determines a frame is lost, the decoder provides a fast update request (FUR). The FUR includes a listing of the LTR frames present at the decoder. With this indication of the LTR frames present at the decoder, the encoder utilizes one of the LTR frames, preferably the most recent, to use as a reference to send the next frame as a P frame. The P frame is sent with an indication of the LTR frame used as reference. The use of two LTR frames and the feedback of LTR frames present at the decoder allows the minimization of the use of I frames for error recovery.

Disclosed are example embodiments of a method and system to reduce re-transmission requirements of a compress media transferring system implemented in a network where packet loss could be possible. An extended header for each transmitted packet can indicate the priority of the packet and endpoints can determine if a re-transmission of a missing packet is desired. Buffering of packets at different hops in a multi-hop system could allow for the retransmission request to be satisfied by a more recent hop than the original system transmitting the video packet. In one embodiment three levels of priority are established to achieve a reliable frame rate of 30 frames per second by compressing the first and second levels at 7.5 frames per second and a third level at 15 frames per second.

System and method for handling critical packets loss in multi-hop RTP streaming

Devices and techniques for overcoming lost packets and avoiding congestion when conducting media conferences over packet switched networks are described herein. To avoid the problem of lost packets, redundant information is inserted into the media stream that permits the receiver to reconstruct any lost packets from the redundant information. Congestion avoidance techniques include adjusting the bitrate of the media stream to find the highest bitrate that can be supported without packet loss due to congestion. When increasing the bitrate to a higher rate, the additional bits can come from the redundant information used for lost packet recovery so that any lost packets caused by network congestion will not adversely affect the bitstream.
