Stents with coatings comprising a combination of a restenosis inhibitor comprising an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor and a carrier. Also provided are methods of coating stents with a combination of an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor and a carrier. A preferred example of a restenosis inhibitor is cerivastatin. The stent coatings have been shown to release restenosis inhibitors in their active forms.

Methods, compositions and devices are disclosed for use in growing new blood vessels to restore or improve blood flow to ischemic tissues and organs of the body. Compositions comprising IGD peptides, particularly GGIGDGG, are able to induce migration in human endothelial cells and promote vessel formation in an in vitro model assay system.

Compositions and methods for promoting myocardial and peripheral angiogenesis

A fluid matrix comprising cross-linked remodelable collagen from a donor vertebrate animal is useful for regenerating hydrodynamic function in damaged intervertebral discs in vivo. The matrix may be injectable and may comprise cells and a plurality of purified cell growth factors. The matrix promotes cell growth and elaboration of proteoglycans to facilitate regeneration of native tissues. The collagen in the matrix may be cross-linked using photooxidative catalysis and visible light, and purified cell growth factors are preferably at least partly bone-derived.

Methods and compositions for treating intervertebral disc degeneration

A liquid carrier medium is provided which is suitable for solubilizing growth factors, such as mixtures of bone morphogenetic proteins, that are found to induce an angiogenic response in ischemic tissues. The liquid medium comprises an aqueous solution of polyvinyl pyrrolidone.

Povidone-containing carriers for polypeptide growth factors

An improved prosthetic graft for the bypass, replacement or repair of vessels and organs that are in contact with blood flow is disclosed. The prosthetic graft includes a porous prosthetic implant and adherent cells adhered to the outer surface of the implant. The adherent cells are transfected with at least one recombinant nucleic acid molecule encoding at least one protein that enhances patency of the graft. The prosthetic graft has a long-term patency and success rate that is superior to other previously described prosthetic grafts designed for such use. Also disclosed are methods of making and using such a graft.

An angiogenic factor comprising a mixture of proteins derived from bone. The angiogenic protein mixture is produced by a series of steps that allow the proteins to be kept in solution. The angiogenic mixture of bone proteins is produced by a multi-step process that includes at least one ultrafiltration step, an anion exchange chromatography step, a cation exchange chromatography step and a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) purification step.

A protein mixture that is useful in the treatment of wounds, where the mixture is isolated from bone or is produced from recombinant proteins and may include two or more of BMP-2, BMP-3, BMP-4, BMP-5, BMP-6, BMP-7, TGF-&#x3b2;1, TGF-&#x3b2;2, TGF-&#x3b2;3, and FGF-1.

Protein mixtures for wound healing

The composition as described serves for in vivo cartilage repair. It basically consists of a naturally derived osteoinductive and/or chondroinductive mixture of factors (e.g. derived from bone) or of a synthetic mimic of such a mixture combined with a nanosphere delivery system. A preferred mixture of factors is the combination of factors isolated from bone, known as BP and described by Poser and Benedict (WO 95/13767). The nanosphere delivery system consists of nanospheres defined as polymer particles of less than 1000 nm in diameter (whereby the majority of particles preferably ranges between 200-400 nm) in which nanospheres the combination of factors is encapsulated. The nanospheres are loaded with the mixture of factors in a weight ratio of 0.001 to 17% (w/w), preferably of 1 to 4% (w/w) and have a release profile with an initial burst of 10 to 20% of the total load over the first 24 hours and a long time release of at least 0.1 per day during at least seven following days. The nanospheres are composed of e.g. ((D,L)-lactic acid/glycolic acid)-copolymer (PLGA). The loaded nanospheres are e.g. made by phase inversion. The composition is advantageously utilized as a device comprising any biodegradable matrix in which the nanospheres loaded with the factor combination is contained.

Composition and device for in vivo cartilage repair

Soldering methods and compositions are disclosed to provide electrical connections between surfaces with reduced likelihood of short circuits or solder-starved joints. Two component solder compositions are employed to preferably form &ldquo;metallic foam&rdquo; joints upon heating. In one embodiment, bimetallic particles are disclosed which fuse together rapidly reducing the likelihood of reflow-related solder joint faults. The methods and compositions of the present invention can also reduce the potential for thermal fatigue and other solder joint failures in electronic devices following fabrication because the porous solder joints relieve plastic constraints and lower the average tensile joint stress. In one preferred embodiment, solder compositions are employed which are composed of particles of a first metal coated with a second metal. Alternatively, the compositions can include particles of a first metal surrounded by a salt solution or suspension of a second metal. The metals are chosen such that their individual melting points are higher than the melting points of the alloy or alloys formed when they are combined. Upon heating of such coated particles, melting occurs at the interfaces between the core materials and their coatings. The liquid so formed causes various particles to fuse together in a porous metal foam that provides an electronic connection capable of withstanding thermal cycling with significantly lower failure rates. This soldering technique is particularly advantageous when applied to soldering of ball arrays and similar structures that facilitate mounting of chips to printed circuit boards, other chips or substrates, generally. The present invention can also be useful in reducing the total amount of lead and/or other toxic components present in solder compositions.
