Disclosed are single-phase antiperspirant compositions and corresponding methods of application, wherein the compositions are single-phase systems that comprise a solubilized antiperspirant active, a volatile silicone and selected coupling materials that are substantially free of Si&mdash;OH and Si&mdash;H functional groups and that have a solubility parameter of from about 7 to about 12, wherein the sum total solubility parameter of the essential components in the composition is m about 9 to about 13. These compositions provide improved low residue performance, enhanced stability, improved efficacy, and/or improved cosmetics.

Single-phase antiperspirant compositions containing solubilized antiperspirant active and volatile silicone

The present invention is directed to deodorant compositions, and methods of using such compositions, wherein the compositions comprise from about 0.1% to about 99.9% by weight of a deodorant active, fragrance or combination thereof, and from about 0.1% to about 99.9% by weight of a carrier comprising 1,2-hexanediol. The deodorant composition preferably further comprises a suitable gellant or structurant to provide the desired product form, including a deodorant gel solid stick. The 1,2-hexanediol carrier is a highly effective coupling agent and is milder to the skin when applied topically to the axilla or other areas of the skin as compared to many other polyol-containing deodorant compositions. The present invention also relates to the use of triclosan/triclocarban combinations for improved deodorant efficacy.

Deodorant compositions containing 1,2-hexanediol

A cosmetic stick deodorant composition comprising: a. from about 0.5% to about 10.0% of the cosmetic stick deodorant composition of an astringent metal salt active; b. a stable, anhydrous base component comprising: i. from about 5% to about 40% of the cosmetic stick deodorant composition of a solidifying agent selected from the group consisting of the high melting point waxes; and low melting point wax fatty alcohols, fatty acid esters and fatty acid amides, having fatty chains of from about 8 to about 22 carbon atoms, and mixtures thereof; ii. from about 20% to about 70% of the cosmetic stick deodorant composition of a volatile emollients; iii. from about 10% to about 50% of the cosmetic stick deodorant composition of non-volatile emollients; and c. from about 0.05% to about 10% of the cosmetic stick deodorant composition of a solubilizing agent having a hydrophile-lipophile balance (HLB) value of greater than about 10.

Deodorant cosmetic stick compositions

Disclosed are anhydrous gel deodorant compositions comprising from about 0.001% to about 50% by weight of deodorant active, fragrance, or combination thereof, from about 0.01% to about 20% by weight of a gellant; from about 1% to about 50% by weight of a nonpolar volatile solvent having a solubility parameter of less than 8.0 (cal/cm.sup.3).sup.0.5, a vapor pressure of from about 0.01 mm Hg to about 6 mm Hg at 25.degree. C., and a boiling point at 1 atm of less than about 250.degree. C.; from about 1% to about 15% by weight of a polar solvent having a solubility parameter of from 12.5 (cal/cm.sup.3).sup.0.5 to about 25 (cal/cm.sup.3).sup.0.5 and optionally a moderately polar solvent having a solubility parameter of from about 8.0 (cal/cm.sup.3).sup.0.5 to less than 12.5 (cal/cm.sup.3).sup.0.5, preferably 1,2-hexanediol. Other preferred embodiments include those which contain combinations of triclosan and triclocarban for improved deodorant efficacy. These compositions provide improved performance and skin feel characteristics, and are especially effective at providing deodorant application which is milder to the skin, and improved product clarity.

Anhydrous gel deodorant compositions

Antiperspirant stick compositions made from a solidifying agent which may include a gellant such as n-acyl amino acid amides, 12-hydroxystearic acid, esters of 12-hydroxystearic acid, amides of 12-hydroxystearic acid, and mixtures thereof; or a wax; a liquid base material including a non-volatile, non-polar emollient oil; an antiperspirant active; and a wash-off agent made of selected polyoxyethylene ethers; polyoxyethylene esters and diesters; and polyoxyethylene glyceryl esters and diesters. Such antiperspirant stick compositions exhibit improved wash-off performance, particularly with regard to the solidifying agent and the non-polar, non-volatile oils. These compositions are easily prepared by conventional techniques.

An antiperspirant gel stick composition incorporating a gelling agent, including a primary gellant selected from the group consisting of 12-hydroxystearic acid, esters of 12-hydroxystearic acid, amides of 12-hydroxystearic acid, and mixtures thereof and a secondary gellant selected from the group consisting of n-acyl amino acid amide derivatives. The antiperspirant gel stick compositions further incorporate a liquid base material including a non-polar, volatile oil and a relatively polar, non-volatile co-solvent. The combination of the gelling agent and the co-solvent permit the utilization of relatively high levels of a non-polar volatile oils which provide a dry feel.

Antiperspirant gel stick compositions

Suspensoid antiperspirant stick compositions, which provide the user with excellent antiperspirant efficacy, reduced residue upon application to the skin, reduced residue on the skin after dry-down, and excellent cosmetics and aesthetics, are disclosed. These compositions are substantially free of water and comprise a volatile silicone material, a particulate antiperspirant active, a low melting point wax, and a non-volatile paraffinic hydrocarbon fluid selected from mineral oils and branched chain C.sub.16 -C.sub.68 hydrocarbons. The method of preventing and controlling perspiration wetness using these compositions is also disclosed.

Low residue antiperspirant sticks

Antiperspirant cream compositions, which exhibit reduced residue on the skin and excellent cosmetics and aesthetics, as well as good composition stability over time, are claimed. These compositions, which may be formulated to have relatively high viscosities, include a volatile silicone material, a particulate antiperspirant active, a clay thickening agent, an activator for the clay thickening agent, and a non-volatile paraffinic hydrocarbon fluid, such as mineral oil or branched chain C.sub.16 -C.sub.68 hydrocarbons. A method of treating or preventing perspiration in humans using these compositions is also claimed.

Low residue antiperspirant creams

Suspensoid antiperspirant stick compositions, which provide the user with excellent antiperspirant efficacy, reduced residue upon application to the skin, reduced residue on the stick after dry-down, and excellent cosmetics and aesthetics, are disclosed. These compositions are substantially free of water and comprise a volatile silicone material, a particulate antiperspirant active, a low melting point wax, and a non-volatile paraffinic hydrocarbon fluid selected from mineral oils and branched chain C.sub.16 -C.sub.68 hydrocarbons. The method of preventing and controlling perspiration wetness using these compositions is also disclosed.

Disclosed are deodorant gel stick compositions comprising from about 0.1 to about 10.0% of a deodorant active, from about 7% to about 35% of intermediate polarity emollients, from about 2% to about 8% of a benzylidene sorbitol, from about 7% to about 75% of a polar solvent, and from about 5% to about 40% of a coupling agent. These deodorant gel sticks provide very stable deodorant compositions with good efficacy as well as excellent cosmetics which are further characterized by their ease of manufacture.

Disclosed are antiperspirant gel stick compositions substantially free of unbound water comprising from about 5 to about 50% of a solubilized antiperspirant active, from about 7% to about 35% of intermediate polarity emollients, from about 1% to about 5% of a benzylidene sorbitol, from about 15% to about 75% of a polar solvent, from about 1% to about 20% of a coupling agent and from about 0.5% to about 10% of a bufferieng agent. These antiperspirant gel sticks provide very stable antiperspirant compositions with good efficacy as well as excellent cosmetic anesthetics which are further characterized by their ease of manufacture. Also disclosed is a method for the manufacture of these gel sticks as well as a method for treating or preventing perspiraton and malodor associated with human underarm perspiration.

Transparent soap gel cosmetic stick compositions comprising a polyhydric aliphatic alcohol, a hydro-alcoholic soluble emollient, water and soap. Such cosmetic sticks possess good cosmetics as well as clarity.
