Systems and methods are described for delivering messages from one or more service hosts to clients via a network. A first request identifying the client is received at the message server, and a connection is established and maintained between the message server and the client in response to the first request. When a subsequent request that identifies the client is received from the service host, a message is transmitted from the message server to the client over the previously-established connection. The methods and techniques may be used, for example, to provide messages from various services to placeshifting devices or other clients communicating via the network.

Systems and methods for delivering messages over a network

Systems and methods are described for searching media files using a set-top box (STB), a television receiver, digital video recorder (DVR), placeshifting device or other media device, or any type of network host that communicates with a media device of any sort. Search criteria is received from a user, and the search criteria is identified in listings of media programming available from one or more sources. In some implementations, a combined search result can be provided that identifies instances of the search criteria found in program guide listings, files stored on a digital video recorder (DVR), available on-demand content, or any other sources as desired. Some implementations may prioritize search results using information about files stored on a DVR, user preferences, or any other information as desired.

Systems and methods for searching media content

Techniques are disclosed for capturing, transcoding, and caching off-air programming at a location local to the consumer. According to certain embodiments, a device is provided that receives off-air (e.g., broadcast) and/or cable (e.g., ClearQAM) programming via one or more antennas and caches the programming in various streams having various bit rates for later viewing using, for example, Adaptive Bit Rate (ABR) streaming. Such a device can be incorporated in a larger system that can stream content via a data communication network (e.g., the Internet) and the device in a seamless manner. The device also can be controlled by a remote system via the data communication network, and further can be configured to stream content to a remote device via the data communication network.

Transcoding and caching for off air television programming delivery

To improve user interaction with a venue, a venue management system is associated with the venue and maintains information associated with users and with vendors associated with the venue. The venue management system receives orders for products or services from users and communicates the received orders to vendors associated with the venue to be fulfilled. The venue management system dynamically modifies communication of orders to various vendors associated with the venue for fulfillment to expedite order fulfillment. To modify communication of orders to vendors, the venue management system accounts for times for different vendors to fulfill orders, delivery times from vendors to users, resources used to fulfill orders by various vendors, and distances between various vendors and users placing orders.

To improve user interaction with a venue, a venue management system is associated with the venue and maintains information associated with users and with vendors associated with the venue. The venue management system receives orders for products or services from users and communicates the received orders to vendors associated with the venue to be fulfilled. The venue management system may group orders having one or more common characteristics received from various users and communicate the group to a vendor to allow the vendor to more efficiently fulfill orders. Further, the venue management system maintains associations between vendors and regions of the venue and may dynamically modify the associations between vendors and regions of a venue to expedite the fulfillment of orders received from various users.

Grouping orders for delivery to vendors of a venue

A venue is associated with various parking lots, and a user may purchase a space in one of the parking lots. A venue management system associated with the venue stores an association between the user and the parking lot. Based on a location of a client device associated with the user, the venue management system communicates navigation directions to the client device for presentation to the user. The directions communicated to the client device account for traffic conditions within a threshold distance of the parking lot, and the venue management system may modify stored directions to the parking lot based on the traffic conditions and communicate the modified directions to the client device for presentation to the user. Additionally, the traffic conditions used by the venue management system include information describing on current usage of various parking lots associated with the venue to allow the user to bypass congestion.

To improve communication with users, a venue management system is associated with the venue and allows an administrator to configure notifications to send to users at or near the venue. To configure a notification, the administrator provides to the venue management system notification information for presentation to users, criteria describing conditions need to be satisfied for the notification to be transmitted to users, and user targeting information identifying characteristics of users to receive the notification. Based on information gathered by the venue management system, the venue management system determines whether at least a threshold amount of the criteria of the notification are satisfied. If at least the threshold amount of the criteria of the notification are satisfied, the venue management system sends the notification to users having characteristics matching at least a threshold amount of the user targeting information.
