A turbine shroud is disposed between stages of stationary turbine nozzles. The turbine shroud includes arcuate shroud segments sealingly engaged with one another. Each shroud segment includes a bottom panel with a radially inner surface and a radially outer surface and opposite ends. Each end includes an end face, an end cutback face spaced from the end face, and an intermediate surface extending between the end face and the end cutback face to define a recess. One or more seals overlap the recess of a circumferentially adjacent pair of shroud segments to produce a sealed joint.

Sealing system for turbine shroud segments

A slurry composition includes, by volume, a ceramic composition in an amount of from about 60 to about 75 percent and a binder in an amount of from about 25 to about 40 percent, plus a platinum group metal catalyst and a dopant. The ceramic composition includes, by volume of the ceramic composition, fine fused silica particles having a particle size dof from about 4 &#x3bc;m to about 7 &#x3bc;m, in an amount of from about 7 to about 40 percent; coarse fused silica particles having a dof from about 25 &#x3bc;m to about 33 &#x3bc;m, in an amount of from about 29 to about 60 percent; inert filler particles having a dof from about 5 &#x3bc;m to about 25 &#x3bc;m, in an amount of from about 8 to about 40 percent; and fumed silica particles, in an amount of up to about 15 percent.

Ceramic slurry compositions and methods of use thereof

Methods for forming ceramic cores are disclosed. A ceramic core formed using the method of the present application includes a silica depletion zone encapsulating an inner zone. The inner zone includes mullite and the silica depletion zone includes alumina. The method includes heat-treating a ceramic body in a non-oxidizing atmospheric condition for an effective temperature and time combination at a pressure less than 10atmosphere to form the silica depletion zone at a surface of the ceramic core.

Methods for forming ceramic cores

The present disclosure generally relates to a ceramic core comprising predominantly mullite, which is derived from a precursor comprising alumina particles and siloxane binders. Free silica is present in the ceramic body, but is largely unavailable for reaction with metal alloys used in investment casting. Methods of making cast metal articles are also disclosed.
