A chemical detection system performs controlled exposures to diagnose the pneumatic components and chemical sensors prior to measuring a chemical emission. A control module provides the system control and data processing to perform the diagnosis. The control module manipulates an emission sample retrieval system to provide precise exposure during the diagnostic routines. A sensor interface circuit interrogates the chemical sensors and stores the data for analysis. The chemical sensor exhibits predictable changes in response during predetermined exposure scenarios. By utilizing numerous time domain signal processing techniques, both system and sensor level fault conditions are determined.

Diagnostic apparatus and methods for a chemical detection system

A fugitive emission collection device for acquiring an atmosphere sample around a seal is provided. The emission collection device has a rigid member that forms a low impedance cavity shaped to overlay a seal. The emission collection device has a conduit with an inlet in fluid communications with the low impedance cavity and an outlet that can be connected to a chemical sensing system to analyze the atmosphere sample for emissions leaking from the seal.

A sensor circuit for use in measuring concentrations of an analyte in a fluid is comprised of a BAW sensor, a voltage variable capacitor connected to the sensor, an input which supplies a bias warping dc voltage to the voltage variable capacitor, and a resonant oscillator circuit. The resonant oscillator circuit detects the fundamental frequency of the sensor and produces a resonant signal frequency. The bias warping dc voltage applied to the voltage variable capacitor warps the resonant frequency of the circuit away from inharmonic noise.

A magnet assembly is disclosed for use with a magnetic flux sensor to provide a position sensor adapted to detect a position of a moveable member. The magnet assembly comprises a magnet housing defining an inner surface. A magnet is provided that is sized for insertion into the magnet housing and adapted for movement with the moveable member, the magnet having a north pole and a south pole, wherein the magnet generates a magnetic flux. A centering ring is positioned between the magnet and the magnet housing, the centering ring including a biased wall acting to center the magnet in the magnet housing.

Self-centering magnet assembly for use in a linear travel measurement device

A displacement sensor includes a magnet assembly having a housing for mounting to one of first and second relatively moveable elements. A magnet assembly is mounted to one element and defines a longitudinal space having an axis along its length. The magnet assembly includes at least one magnet having a north and a south pole that supply fringing magnetic flux in the longitudinal space and a flux-shaping pole piece on each of the north and south poles. A magnetic field sensor assembly has a housing for mounting to the other of the first and second elements for movement along an axis in the space parallel to the magnet assembly. In one embodiment, each of the flux-shaping pole pieces has a pentagon shape in a plane of primary flux pattern, forming a first face confronting the longitudinal space between the first and second magnets. In another embodiment, the magnet is a cylindrical magnet adjacent the longitudinal space, and the first face of each flux-shaping pole piece is cylindrical and coaxial with the cylindrical magnet. Preferably, the pole piece has a frusto-conical face confronting the longitudinal space adjacent the cylindrical face.

Linearized magnetic displacement sensor

A device for remotely calibrating leak sensors is disclosed. The leak sensor calibration device includes a reservoir for storing a fluid calibrant, a conduit in flow communication with the reservoir, an outlet nozzle, an air supply source, and a valve mechanism. A portion of the conduit defines a dosing chamber for storing a measured quantity of the calibrant, and the outlet nozzle is in flow communication with the dosing chamber. The air supply source is adapted to pressurize the measured quantity of calibrant stored in the dosing chamber. The valve mechanism is adapted to eject the measured quantity of calibrant stored in the dosing chamber to the atmosphere through the outlet nozzle.

Fugitive emission sensing system

The concentration of an analyte in a fluid is measured by a quartz crystal microbalance sensor device in the fluid containing a concentration of the analyte. The sensor device exhibits a resonant frequency representative of the concentration of the analyte in the fluid. A quartz crystal microbalance reference device has a resonant frequency lower, by a predetermined amount, than the initial resonant frequency of the sensor device before the sensor device is exposed to the analyte. A signal is derived based on the difference of the resonant frequencies of the sensor and the reference device, and a first counter counts a predetermined number of cycles of the difference signal frequency to derive a sample time period. A second counter counts cycles of a clock signal frequency during the sample time period to derive a count representative of the difference signal frequency.

High frequency measuring circuit with inherent noise reduction for resonating chemical sensors

An apparatus for quantifying the position of a released arrow as it passes across the bow riser. A low power, electronics measurement unit attached onto or mounted internal to a bow in communication with a sensor detects a signal from an arrow shaft for the purposes of collecting data pertaining to arrow position. The electronics measurement unit provides a user configurable gain to control the variation and sensitivity of the collected data. The optical trigger mechanism used to stimulate the sensor does not require arrow shaft modification. Statistical parameters of the collected data are displayed on the bow and are used to determine and improve archery tackle performance.

Bow-mounted apparatus for detection and quantification of deviations in dynamic arrow position

An electrical circuit and method for measuring small variations in a high frequency signal is disclosed. The circuit generates a coarse measurement of the input signal frequency and a reference signal having the same frequency as the frequency represented by the coarse measurement. The circuit measures the difference in frequency between the input signal and the reference signal, and adds the coarse measurement and the difference measurement to determine the frequency of the input signal. The circuit may be used in conjunction with a piezoelectric acoustic wave device and oscillator to provide an apparatus for accurately measuring low concentrations of a gas.

High frequency measuring circuit

A displacement sensor includes a magnet assembly having a housing for mounting to one of first and second relatively moveable elements. First and second magnets are mounted to the magnet assembly housing so that the north pole of one magnet confronts the south pole of the other magnet, and vice versa. The first and second magnets form a longitudinal space between them. A flux-shaping pole piece on each of the poles have configurations to sculpt fringing magnetic flux in the longitudinal space so that magnetic flux density in the longitudinal space varies substantially linearly along a line in the longitudinal space between the confronting poles of the magnets. A magnetic field sensor assembly has a housing for mounting to the other of the first and second elements. A magnetic flux sensor is mounted to the sensor housing on the line in the longitudinal space between the first and second magnets. In one embodiment, each of the flux-shaping pole pieces has a pentagon shape in a plane of primary flux pattern, forming a narrow face confronting the longitudinal space between the first and second magnets. The narrow face of each flux-shaping pole piece is wider across the primary flux pattern than along the length of the line in the longitudinal space.

A device for delivering a metered quantity of vaporized liquid material to the surrounding atmosphere is disclosed. The device includes a reservoir for storing the liquid material, and a conduit in flow communication with the reservoir, with a portion of the conduit defining a dosing chamber for storing the metered quantity of the liquid material. The conduit further includes an impeding portion for restricting the flow of the liquid material from the dosing chamber toward the reservoir. An outlet nozzle is provided and is in flow communication with the dosing chamber. A thermal activator is disposed adjacent the dosing chamber for vaporizing the liquid material in the dosing chamber thereby ejecting the vaporized material through the outlet nozzle to the atmosphere.

Device for ejecting a metered quantity of vaporized fluid

A method and apparatus for collecting fugitive emissions from valves and other emissions sources is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a capsule enclosing at least a portion of the equipment and an ejector in fluid flow communication with the capsule. The ejector is connected to a compressed air source, which creates a pressure drop in the ejector which draws emissions from the capsule into the ejector. The apparatus may include a sensor chamber housing gas sensors to detect the presence and concentration of any emissions from the equipment being monitored, and may store emissions data, communicate the data to a plant process control system, and use the data to control plant conditions to reduce or eliminate the emissions.

Sample retrieval system

A instrument and method for measuring archery tackle performance is disclosed. A low power, electronics measurement unit attached onto or mounted internal to a bow in communication with a sensor which detects a signal from an external trigger mechanism mounted onto or internal to an arrow shaft for the purposes of measuring arrow velocity or collecting data indicative of arrow position. The statistical parameters of the collected data may then be used to determine and improve archery tackle performance in any shooting situation.

Bow-mounted chronograph

A device for remotely calibrating leak sensors. A supply of liquid analyte calibrant is stored in a reservoir, and is communicated to an outlet nozzle by a conduit having a throughbore. The conduit terminates in an outlet nozzle, and portion of the conduit defines a dosing chamber for storing a measured dose of the liquid calibrant. A thermal activator such as a resistive coil or a radio frequency unit is disposed adjacent the dosing chamber for applying a steep thermal gradient in order to bring the calibrant quickly to its boiling point such that the measured quantity is ejected from the outlet nozzle.
