A unidirectional annular labyrinth seal for a roller having an outer labyrinth seal and an inner labyrinth seal. The inner and outer seals have an annular outer wall, and an annular inner wall defining an interior and an interior surface. The interior of each seal has one or more annular middle walls and each has a central opening. The outer labyrinth seal and the inner labyrinth seal engage each other so that the outer walls, the inner walls, and the one or more middle walls cooperate to form a labyrinth in the unidirectional annular labyrinth seal. An annular interior seal is positioned in the interior of the outer labyrinth seal or in the interior of the inner labyrinth seal. The unidirectional annular labyrinth seal allows air to flow out of the roller but not into the roller.

Unidirectional labyrinth seal system

A unidirectional annular labyrinth seal having flexible annular fins positioned on a circular plate near an outer edge of the circular plate wherein the fins are biased towards a center of the circular plate. Annular ribs are positioned on an end of an idler roller. The fins project into recesses formed by the annular ribs, thereby forming the unidirectional annular labyrinth seal. The annular fins engage the annular ribs when the temperature of air within an interior of the roller is similar to the temperature of air exterior to the roller, thereby closing the labyrinth seal. The flexible annular fins bend away from the annular ribs when the temperature of air within the interior of the roller is higher than that of air exterior to the roller, thereby opening the labyrinth seal and allowing heated air within the interior of the roller to escape through the labyrinth seal.

Unidirectional labyrinth seal

A secure authentication image file is generated for use in authenticating a device. The device performs a secure authentication algorithm on the secure authentication image file and a received plaintext challenge, and outputs a cyphertext response. If the cyphertext response matches a pre-stored cyphertext string associated with the plaintext challenge, then the device is authenticated. The secure authentication image file is pre-generated in a secure environment. A plurality of key address locations are reserved in a raw memory image file. A key merger application merges the secure key data into the raw memory image file to generate a secure authentication image file. A test set of plaintext/cyphertext pairs are generated using the newly created secure authentication image file. To maintain security of the secure authentication image file, the secure key data and the raw memory image file are erased from a working memory. The test set of plaintext/cyphertext pairs are used to verify a production device containing the secure authentication image file.

System and method for generating secured authentication image files for use in device authentication

A communication protocol between a master device, such as a mobile phone, and a peripheral device facilitates authentication of the peripheral device. When a peripheral device is detected, the master device initiates a wake-up command to the peripheral device, transmits an authentication request command followed by challenge data to the peripheral device, and awaits responses from the peripheral device. The accessory receives the challenge data, performs a hash function on the challenge data, and generates response data. An authentication response type byte is sent to the handset followed by the response data. The handset compares the response data to pre-stored data that is associated with the challenge data. A match indicates that the accessory is authentic. The challenge/response data, also referred to as a plaintext/cyphertext pair, is pre-generated external to the handset using the hash function, then pre-stored in the handset.

Communication protocol for device authentication

Methods and apparatus for determining the operating states of a plurality of capacitive sensing buttons in a capacitive sensing user interface are disclosed. The capacitive sensing buttons are sampled in a round-robin fashion such that the decay time samples for the buttons are acquired in an interleaved manner during each sampling cycle. Provisions are made to reduce the initialization delay, to reduce transient-induced errors, and to obtain the operating states based on updated decay data samples for the buttons.

Capacitive sensing user interfaces and implementation thereof

An apparatus and method measure a temperature of a temperature sensing element having a temperature dependent resistance based on a ratio of discharge times of a capacitor through a reference resistance and through the combination of the reference resistance in parallel with the temperature sensing element is disclosed. A reference discharge time is determined by measuring the discharge time of the capacitor from a first voltage to a second voltage through a reference resistance. A temperature evaluation discharge time is determined by measuring the time to discharge the capacitor from the first voltage to the second voltage through the reference resistance in parallel with the temperature sensing element. The ratio of the temperature evaluation discharge time to the reference discharge time is used to determine the temperature and produce a digital representation of the temperature.

Apparatus and method for determining a temperature of a temperature sensing element

A temperature measuring and identification (TMID) device obtains identification information and temperature information of a connected device having a temperature sensing circuit (TSC). The TSC includes a temperature sensing element (TSE) connected in parallel with a voltage clamping network (VCN) that limits the voltage across the TSE to an identification voltage within an identification voltage range when the voltage is greater than or equal to a lower voltage of the identification voltage range. When a voltage below the lower range is applied to the TSC, the VCN appears as an open circuit and the resistance of the TSC corresponds to temperature. A translation circuit within the TMID shifts TSC voltages within the identification voltage range to a normalization voltage range. Accordingly, voltages corresponding to temperature as well as voltages corresponding to identification are within the normalization voltage range. As a result, the resolution of a voltage sensing device used for measuring the temperature and identification voltages is maximized. In addition, the translation circuit maintains a minimal current during a rest state. For cost or other concerns, a first TSC may omit the VCN to provide a maximum identification voltage and other TSCs may include VCNs with lower identification voltage ranges.

Apparatus, system and method for high resolution identification with temperature dependent resistive device

The invention is a line of sight wind detection system that has a laser with an output that is directed at a target. The system also has a receiver with a Hartmann aperture array receiving a reflected beam impinging on the Hartmann aperture array. A multiple pixel sensor senses a number of spots of light from the Hartmann aperture array. An analyzer receives an output from the multiple pixel sensor and determines an effective wind speed along a line of sight using a position of the spots. The system takes advantage of the fact that the wind along the line of sight will result in a shift in the angle of the wave front of the reflected beam. This shift in the angle of the wave front contains all the information of the cumulative effect on a projectile fired at the target.

Plaintext/cyphertext pairs are generated for use in authenticating a device. The device performs a secure authentication algorithm on a secure authentication image file and a received plaintext challenge, and outputs a cyphertext response. If the cyphertext response matches a pre-stored cyphertext string associated with the plaintext challenge, then the device is authenticated. A master processor manages the generation of the plaintext/cyphertext pairs. Plaintext challenges are generated in the master processor using a binary counter and an n-bit key. Each plaintext challenge is transmitted to a first processor and a second processor. The first processor executes the secure authentication algorithm on each plaintext challenge and outputs a cyphertext response associated with each plaintext challenge. The second processor executes the secure authentication algorithm on each plaintext challenge and outputs a second cyphertext response associated with each plaintext challenge. The master processor receives the first and second cyphertext responses for each plaintext challenge. If the first cyphertext response matches the second cyphertext response, then the master processor stores each plaintext challenge and the associated cyphertext response as a vector pair in a database.
