Methods of wellbore cementing are provided. A method of generating a wellbore treatment fluid may include: classifying a plurality of solid particulates using correlations; calculating a reactive index and/or a water requirement for at least one of the solid particulates; and selecting two or more solid particulates from the plurality of solid particulates to create a wellbore treatment fluid.

Slurry design process

Systems and methods related to preparing foamed cement for laboratory analysis are provided. A prepared cement slurry is placed in a cement reservoir cell configured to pressurize the cement slurry contained within the cement reservoir cell to a capture pressure. After pressurization, the cement slurry and a compressed gas are introduced into a foam generator. Foamed cement generated in the foam generator is introduced from the tee into a foam capture cell where it can cure prior to analysis.

System and method of producing foamed cement in a laboratory environment

Methods of wellbore cementing are provided. A method of cementing may comprise calculating a lime to silica correlation for two or more cementitious components of a cement composition; and adjusting a concentration of at least one of the cementitious components such that the lime to silica correlation meets or exceeds a target.

Low portland silica-lime cements

Provided are compositions and methods of using a liquid suspension of hollow particles comprising a plurality of hollow particles, water, a suspending aid, and a stabilizer selected from the group consisting of a non-ionic surfactant, a latex, an oleaginous fluid, porous silica, and combinations thereof. The liquid suspension is homogenous. An example method includes statically storing the liquid suspension in a container for at least one week; wherein the liquid suspension maintains a difference in density from the top of the container to the bottom of the container of less than one pound per gallon while stored. The method further includes adding the liquid suspension to a treatment fluid; wherein the liquid suspension reduces the density of the treatment fluid; and introducing the treatment fluid into a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation.

Reactivity mapping methods are provided. A method may include: analyzing each of a group of inorganic particles to generate data about physical and/or chemical properties of the inorganic particles; and generating correlations between the properties of inorganic particles based on the data.

Reactivity mapping

A downhole well system can use a fiber optic cable that can be positioned downhole along a length of a wellbore. The well system may include a top plug, a bottom plug, or both that are used to contain a cement slurry during a cementing operation. The movement of the top plug and bottom plug may cause acoustic noise along the downhole portion of the casing. A reflectometer may detect the acoustic noise from strain in the fiber optic cable and determine a location of the top plug or bottom plug downhole.

Wellbore cement compositions can be managed based on material characteristics determined from a cement sample. For example, a cement sample can be retrieved from a wellbore. The cement sample can be analyzed using a plurality of sensors to generate a three-dimensional mapping of particles in the cement sample. The three-dimensional mapping can represent three-dimensional spatial relationships between the particles in the cement sample. The three-dimensional mapping can be compared to baseline three-dimensional mappings in a database. The comparison of the three-dimensional mappings can be used to identify at least one material characteristic of the cement sample. Based on the at least one material characteristic of the cement sample, a cement mixture can be prepared or information related to the cement mixture can be output.

Managing wellbore cement compositions based on material characteristics

Methods of wellbore cementing are provided. A method of cementing may comprise: calculating a lime to silica correlation for two or more cementitious components of a cement composition; and adjusting a concentration of at least one of the cementitious components such that the lime to silica correlation meets or exceeds a target.

Low Portland silica-lime cements

Apparatus, systems, and methods for reverse circulation cementing a tubular string in a wellbore. One such method includes reverse circulating cement slurry down an annulus defined between the tubular string and the wellbore. During the reverse circulation, a flow control device located in the tubular string is closed to prevent, or at least reduce, flow of the cement slurry from the annulus into the tubular string. The closure of the flow control device causes a pressure pulse in the wellbore. After the flow control device is closed, the reverse circulation is stopped. During a time interval between the closure of the flow control device and the stoppage of the reverse circulation, a shock absorber associated with the flow control device absorbs the pressure pulse in the wellbore so that a pressure in the wellbore is maintained within an acceptable range.

Apparatus, systems, and methods for dampening a wellbore pressure pulse during reverse circulation cementing

Methods and systems including a wellbore having a pipe string extending through a wellhead and into the wellbore, wherein an annulus is formed between the pipe string and the wellbore, an isolation device that closes the wellbore in a closed pressure loop, a choke line in fluid communication with an interior of the pipe string through an outlet port of the wellhead, a choke valve fluidly coupled to the outlet port of the wellhead, wherein the choke valve is manipulable to control fluid flow through the choke line, and a crossover tool in the wellbore to divert incoming fluid from the interior of the pipe string to the annulus.

Managed pressure reverse cementing

Various embodiments include methods and systems structured to provide an indication of the status of a cementing operation in a wellbore. Electromagnetic radiation from a source can be directed to a fluid region in or around a casing in a wellbore, where an electromagnetic response can be detected from interaction of the electromagnetic radiation in the fluid region. Presence or absence of cement in the fluid region can be determined based the electromagnetic response. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods can be implemented in a variety of applications.

Cementing indication system

A method of detecting the presence of a downhole fluid at a particular location in a wellbore including pumping an activating fluid into a wellbore; contacting a flow controlling device in a pipe string casing with the activating fluid, the flow controlling device comprising at least one swellable element; activating the at least one swellable element in the flow controlling device; blocking fluids or controlling the flow of fluids entering or leaving the casing with the activated flow controlling device; allowing the pressure to change; and detecting the pressure change. An apparatus includes a pipe string in a wellbore and a flow controlling device in the pipe string casing, wherein the flow controlling device includes at least one swellable element, wherein upon activation, the at least one swellable element swells and fully or partially seals off the flow area of the flow controlling device.
