A compressor may include a compression mechanism and a shell assembly. The shell assembly may include a body and first and second end caps cooperating to contain the compression mechanism within the body. The body may include first and second open ends and inner and outer surfaces extending between the first and second ends. The outer surface may include first and second threaded portions disposed near the first and second ends, respectively. The first end cap may include a side wall having a third threaded portion engaging said first threaded portion of said body. The second end cap may include a side wall having a fourth threaded portion engaging the second threaded portion of the body.

Compressor shell assembly

A compressor may include a compression mechanism and a shell assembly. The shell assembly may include first and second snap rings, a body, and first and second caps cooperating with the body to enclose the compression mechanism therein. The body may include first and second ends and an inner surface extending between both ends. The first cap may be received within the first end and may include a first side wall having a first groove. The second cap may be received within the second end and may include a second side wall having a second groove. The first snap ring may be disposed within the first groove and may engage the first end to restrict removal of the first cap from the body. The second snap ring may be disposed within the second groove and may engage the second end to restrict removal of the second cap from the body.

A compressor may include a compressor housing, an oil sump, an intake chamber, a compression mechanism, a drive shaft, and a first oil passage. The oil sump may be in communication with the compression mechanism. The intake chamber may be defined within the housing. The drive shaft may include first and second ends with an oil inlet passage located therebetween. The first end may be disposed within the intake chamber and may be drivingly engaged with the compression mechanism. The second end may extend outside of the housing for driven engagement external to the housing. The oil inlet passage may be located within the intake chamber. The first oil passage may be disposed within the housing and in communication with the oil sump and the oil inlet passage.

A compressor system includes a pair of compressors located in a common shell. A common drive shaft drives both compressors and the drive shaft is powered by a single motor. One or both of the compressors can be equipped with a pulse width modulated capacity control system and a vapor injection system. When one compressor is equipped with these systems, the capacity can be varied between 50% and 110%. When both compressors are equipped with these systems, the capacity can be varied between 0% and 120%.

An automatic temperature control system and method for maintaining a predetermined temperature in an enclosed space, wherein the temperature in a heat sink is sensed and compared with the outside temperature to anticipate whether a heating or cooling mode is or may be required. When a mode is selected, a 'readiness' state signal is supplied to a preset control in the enclosed space. When the preset temperature is reached in the enclosed space, the preset control energizes the appropriate heating or cooling device to maintain the preset temperature in the enclosed space.

Automatic temperature control

A heating and cooling system, which in the 'heating' mode provides fresh, filtered, solar heated air which may be augmented by a fireplace(s) heat exchanger to selectively complement or supplant a heating system otherwise fueled by mass-purchased fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal, etc.), without resorting to intermediate steps, i.e., heat pump assist, liquid conversions, low level air mixing, etc. A collector duct extends along the peak region of an attic space to direct air, heated by solar energy impinging on the roof, to the intake of a heating and/or distribution system within the building. Vents admit outside air to the attic space, adjacent the eaves, so the air is heated by the hot roof and rises to the inlet slot of the duct in the peak region. The duct transfer can be closed and a further inlet opened to admit normal return air from the occupied areas to the heating and distribution system. In the absence of adequate solar heated air, a heat exchanger installed in a conventional fireplace may be selectively energized to perform a similar function. In the 'cooling' mode, the system provides outside, cool air to the distribution system within the building, either in lieu of air normally cooled by the air-conditioning compressor, or as supply air thereto for normal cooling function.
