A feeding tube assembly for insertion and delivery of nutrients into an alimentary canal is disclosed. A method of facilitating the use of the feeding tube with an insufflation device is also disclosed. The feeding tube assembly has a feeding tube with opposite proximal and distal ends, a feeding passage extending between the proximal and distal ends, an outlet proximate the distal end and in fluid communication with the feeding passage, a port at the proximal end and in fluid communication with the outlet; and an air insufflation device fluidly connectable to the port comprising a compressible air bulb having a bulb inlet and a bulb outlet; an inlet check valve at the bulb inlet, an outlet check valve at the bulb outlet, and a relief valve fluidly connected to the bulb outlet.

Feeding tube with insufflation device and related methods therefor

The present invention relates an anti-free flow valve for a fluid administration systems having a tube assembly with a lumen formed through therethrough coupled to a pump. The anti-free flow valve comprises a body including a cylindrical portion having an opening and a tapered portion which has opposing beveled surfaces with ends that form a slit bounded by side walls. The opening communicates with the slit through a passage formed through the body which is adapted to receive the tube assembly therethrough. Fluid free flow through the tube assembly is prevented by the slit being placed in the closed position when the ends of the opposing beveled surfaces are urged together when the tube assembly is in a relaxed condition. However, when a tensile force is applied along the tube assembly the inner diameter of the lumen decreases which urges the ends of the opposing beveled surfaces away from one another and places the slit in the open position, thereby permitting fluid flow through the body.

Valve cuff for a fluid administration system

A valve device is disclosed which is incorporated into the lower portion of a drip chamber for preventing the free flow of fluid through a tube assembly when the tube assembly is disengaged from a pump of a fluid administration system, while permitting fluid flow when the tube assembly is engaged around a rotor of the pump. The valve device comprises a valve body having a top component sealingly engaged with a bottom component. The top component is integrally formed with the lower portion of the drip chamber and defines a plurality of axial fluid passageways formed around a stationary plunger which seals against a opening formed at the upper portion of the bottom component. The opening is in communication with a lumen that extends into a hollow tube assembly which is attached to the bottom component of the valve body. The bottom component further includes a flex joint made of a flexible material that is adapted to flex and pull the opening away from the plunger to establish fluid flow through the valve device. In operation, a user applies a tensile force along the tube assembly by engaging the tube assembly around a rotor of a pump which pulls the flex joint away from the plunger and opens the valve device to fluid flow therethrough. When the tube assembly is disengaged from the rotor the flex joint is forced back to its original position such that the plunger is sealed against the opening, thereby preventing fluid free flow through the fluid administration system.

The present invention resides in an improvement to a syringe having a syringe housing and a plunger slidably positioned therein and extendable therefrom, and includes a novel locking member mounted on the plunger externally of the housing and angularly movable thereon between a first position in which the locking member can move longitudinally along the plunger and a second position in which the locking member becomes engaged with the plunger to hold the members together in fixed condition for movement in concert. The locking member is also shaped to move into abutment with the syringe housing where the plunger is moved to limit movement of the plunger when in its locked position.
