Disclosed is a unitary absorbent structure including a fluid acquisition stratum; a fluid distribution stratum; and a fluid storage stratum between the acquisition stratum and the distribution stratum. Each of the acquisition, distribution, and storage strata are in fluid communication with each other.

Unitary fluid acquisition, storage, and wicking material

The present invention is directed to nonwoven materials containing a chemical composition capable of generating carbon dioxide when activated. The present invention provides a latent carbon dioxide gas generating material having a first layer containing fiber and a binder, having a basis weight of from about 25 gsm to about 100 gsm and having inner and outer surfaces, a second layer containing a carbon dioxide gas generating composition, having a basis weight of from about 5 gsm to about 300 gsm and having upper and lower surfaces, and a third layer containing fiber and a binder, having a basis weight of from about 25 gsm to about 100 gsm and having inner and outer surfaces. The inner surface of the first layer is in contact with the upper surface of the second layer, and the inner surface of the third layer is in contact with the lower surface of the second layer.

Latent carbon dioxide generating material

Disclosed is an absorbent structure having wet integrity greater than about 4.0 mN/gsm, softness greater than 8.0/J, pliability greater than about 70/N, and providing a substantially dry liquid-accepting surface after receiving a quantity of liquid. The structure includes an upper ply having an upper fluid receiving surface and a lower surface and including (i) a top stratum including synthetic matrix fibers bonded with a binder, the matrix fibers having length from about 2 to about 15 mm; (ii) a middle stratum in fluid communication with the top stratum, the middle stratum including natural fibers, superabsorbent particles and a binder; and (iii) a bottom stratum in fluid communication with the middle stratum, the bottom stratum including natural fibers and a binder. The structure also includes a lower ply in fluid communication with the upper ply, the lower ply having an upper surface and a lower surface and including at least one stratum including natural fibers, superabsorbent polymer particles, and a binder, wherein the lower surface of the upper ply has a surface area less than about 80% of the upper surface area of the lower ply.

High-performance absorbent structure

This invention relates to fibrous absorbent articles containing particles useful in the manufacture of disposable diapers, adult incontinence pads, sanitary napkins and the like, scrubbing pads, scouring pads and cleaning pads that contain a detergent or soap and the like, and pads that contain coffee, tea, and the like More particularly, the invention is directed to an absorbent articles having sealed lateral edges to contain loose fibers and particles within the structure. Additionally, this invention is related to airlaid methods to manufacture unitary absorbent products.

Multifunctional fibrous material with improved edge seal

Disclosed is an absorbent structure including a liquid acquisition layer and a fibrous liquid storage layer in liquid communication with the acquisition layer. The storage layer includes SAP particles. The acquisition layer includes synthetic fibers and the fibers are latex bonded. A fluid acquisition and/or distribution layer (ADL) containing at least two layers, a top layer of latex bonded synthetic fibers and a bottom layer of latex and/or thermal bonded cellulose fibers and method for preparation thereof are disclosed. The synthetic fiber layer is highly porous and provides rapid fluid acquisition under load. The cellulose layer provides z-direction capillary force to pull fluid into the absorbent product, to provide temporary fluid immobilization, and to act as a conduit for fluid to be pulled into unsaturated portion of the permanent fluid storage layer. The ADL of the invention provides increased protection against leakage relative to single-layer ADLS.

Absorbent structures having fluid acquisition and distribution layer

A discrete superabsorbent layer is adhered to the lower surface of a fibrous absorbent structure using a water-based polymeric binder is disclosed. The advantages are that a superabsorbent roll good can be prepared for later conversion into disposable absorbent products. The use of the water-based polymeric binder prevents particles of superabsorbent from becoming dislodged from the structure during handling and processing.

Absorbent structures coated with foamed superabsorbent polymer

A method of reducing the amount of energy required to disintegrate comminution sheets formed from cellulose fibers without adversely affecting the absorbency, strength, or fluid transport properties of airfelts formed from the comminuted treated fibers. The method of the present invention includes the steps of preparing an aqueous slurry of cellulose fibers, adding an effective amount of a debonding agent such as aluminum or Kaolin clay to the cellulose slurry, and forming a comminution sheet from the fibers treated with the debonding agent. The debonding agent is added to the cellulose slurry in an amount effective to reduce the energy required to disintegrate comminution sheets formed from the fibers in the slurry by up to 50% of the amount of energy required to disintegrate comminution sheets formed from untreated pulp.

Method for treating pulp to reduce disintegration energy

A lotion composition for killing such viruses as rhinovirus and influenza in addition to imparting a soft, lubricious, lotion-like feel when applied to tissue paper in amounts as low as from about 2 to about 20% by weight, and tissue paper treated with such lotion compositions are disclosed. The anti-viral action of the lotion is due to the addition of an organic acid such as citric acid or a mixture of adipic acid, glutaric acid, and succinic acids. The solubilization of the organic acids within the lotion matrix and with the infected mucus is aided by the addition of such hydrophilic solvents as propylene glycol and polyethylene glycols. The lubricious lotions also contain a plastic or fluid emollient such as petrolatum, an immobilizing agent such as a fatty alcohol or fatty acid to immobilize the emollient on the surface of the tissue paper web and optionally a non-ionic surfactant to improve wettability when applied to toilet tissue. Because less lotion is required to impart the desired soft, lotion-like feel benefits, detrimental effects on the tensile strength and caliper of the lotioned paper are minimized or avoided. The anhydrous nature of the lotions also aids in the maintenance of such physical properties as tensile and caliper.

Anti-viral, anhydrous, and mild skin lotions for application to tissue

A unitary package comprising a plurality of individual inner packages juxtaposed with each other at one or more interfaces. At least some inner packages are wrapped in a wrapper and are peripherally disposed along at least first and second outside walls of the unitary package, defining these first and second outside walls. A first sheet of material having at least one line of weakness is juxtaposed with the first outside wall and interconnects all peripherally disposed inner packages by engaging each of them. Preferably, a second sheet of material is juxtaposed with the second outside wall interconnecting all peripherally disposed inner packages. Preferably, both sheets of material have a self-registering pattern of a plurality of lines of weakness running in both mutually perpendicular directions and comparatively closely spaced such that there is a high probability that at least one of these lines is positioned at the interface of the individual inner packages. The unitary package can be carried as an integral unit and disassembled fully or partially along the lines of weakness.
