A method for increasing moisture retention in a soil includes applying an effective amount of an effective humectant composition to the soil. The effective humectant composition is identified by determining the average moisture content of the soil for the humectant compositions applied at a minimum humectant concentration level, a maximum humectant concentration level, and at a first concentration level between the minimum and the maximum humectant concentration level. An average slope curve is generated by plotting the determined average moisture content of the soil for each applied humectant concentration levels from the minimum humectant concentration level to the maximum humectant concentration level. An effective humectant composition is determined when the generated average slope curve provides an increasing average moisture content along the entirety of a length of the generated average slope curve and when the generated average slope curve has a p value of 0.05 or less.

A proppant comprises a particle and a polycarbodiimide coating disposed on the particle. The polycarbodiimide coating comprises the reaction product of a polymeric isocyanate and a monomeric isocyanate, in the presence of a catalyst. A method of forming the proppant comprises the steps of providing the particle, providing the polymeric isocyanate, providing the monomeric isocyanate, providing the catalyst, reacting the polymeric isocyanate and the monomeric isocyanate in the presence of the catalyst to form the polycarbodiimide coating, and coating the particle with the polycarbodiimide coating.

A bioresin composition is used to form a rigid polyurethane article that includes a first and a second biopolyol and is substantially free of aprotic solvents that chemically decompose in the presence of water. The first biopolyol includes a natural oil component. The second biopolyol includes the reaction product of a natural carbohydrate and an alkylene oxide. The rigid polyurethane foam article includes the reaction product of the bioresin composition and an isocyanate which are reacted in the presence of a chemical blowing agent.

An elastomeric composition includes a reaction product of an isocyanate component and a resin component comprising a polyol and a polyetheramine in the presence of a first catalyst comprising a metal and a second catalyst comprising an amine. An elastomeric system and a method of making an elastomer are provided. The method includes providing the isocyanate component and the resin component, combining the resin component and the isocyanate component in the presence of the first and second catalysts to form an elastomeric composition, applying the elastomeric composition to a mold having a mold cavity, curing the elastomeric composition to form the elastomer, and demolding the elastomer from the mold cavity. An article including a first layer formed from the elastomeric composition emits less than 100 &#x3bc;g/g of volatile organic compounds over 0.5 hour at 90&#xb0; C.

The subject invention provides a composition and a process for forming a flexible polyurethane foam sealing device having improved compression set properties at increased temperatures. The sealing device is formed without the use of chemical blowing agents. The composition includes an isocyanate component for reaction with a resin component comprising an isocyanate-reactive component having a functionality of least four and a hydroxyl number of less than 40, a graft dispersion, and a physical blowing agent. The most preferred physical blowing agent is HFC-245 fa or 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane.
