A shredding apparatus comprises a plurality of rotatable rolls, each one of the rolls being rotatable around an axis of rotation in a first direction of rotation or a second direction of rotation. Each roll further has a plurality of angled replaceable teeth, which are arranged in at least one first set of teeth arranged in a first helical line across an outer surface of each roll, circumferentially spaced apart a first angle and facing the first direction of rotation. Further, at least one second set of teeth is arranged in a second helical line across the outer face of each roll, circumferentially spaced apart the first angle and facing the second direction of rotation. The first helical line and the second helical line of teeth are arranged to axially (in the longitudinal direction of the rolls) move material to be shredded when the rolls are rotated. Further, the shredding apparatus has a frame structure with roll holding means, for journalling the plurality of rolls in a spaced apart relationship to form a bed of rolls. The frame structure is surrounded by an enclosure provided with a charging opening for material to be shredded and a discharging opening for shredded material. A reversible drive means supplies rotation force to rotate the plurality of rolls, and a plurality of gear means, arranged one for each roll, transfers the rotation force from one roll to an adjacent roll so that adjacent rolls rotate in opposite directions of rotation.

Comminuting apparatus

An interlocking interchangeable interface element and rotor assembly comprising at least two rotor bodies, a plurality of interface element mounting cut-outs arranged substantially radially in the rotor bodies, a plurality of interface elements arranged to be mountable in the cut-outs and a plurality of peripheral mounting holes arranged to receive rotor body bundling means to hold the rotor bodies fixedly against each-other and to prevent the hammers to exit the interface element mounting cut-outs. Each of the interface elements has a substantially oblong and planar shape; a bottom end shaped to interlock with the cut-outs; a leading edge facing the direction of rotation of the rotors; a trailing edge facing the side opposite to the direction of rotation; and interface element tip mounting means, arranged in an upper mounting portion of each interface element. The interface elements further have a bottom portion with a generally rounded surface arranged to cooperate with a generally rounded bottom portion of the cutouts, a heel portion facing the direction of rotation and shaped to cooperate with a recess portion of the cutouts, so that during insertion of an individual interface element in one cut-out, by inserting the bottom portion first, the generally rounded surface is slidable into a relief recess portion of the cut-outs, permitting the heel portion to clear the protruding portion and the interface element to be seated with the bottom portion in the generally rounded bottom portion of the cut-outs. The individual interface element is thus locked from movement in a radial direction in the rotor bodies. The interface elements further have a first force absorbing surface, arranged on the trailing edge, and a second force absorbing surface, arranged on the leading edge, and interface element securing fasteners, arranged to receive the rotor bundling means for securing the interface elements to the rotor bodies.

Interface elements for shredder mills

The invention is a screening apparatus for classifying material of different sizes. A screen is rotatably mounted on a frame for rotation around a first axis which is angled upwardly away from the horizontal, at an angle of from 0 to 30 degrees. The screen is symmetrical about the axis and has an open upper inlet end and a lower outlet end. The screen has a cylindrical portion extending from the inlet end towards the outlet end, having a diameter larger than its length, and a conical portion extending from the cylindrical portion towards the outlet end, tapering inwardly to a central outlet opening, the lowest point of the outlet opening being substantially higher than the lowest point of the screen. The frame is pivotally mounted on a trailer for pivoting about a longitudinal axis near a lower side edge of the trailer. The open inlet end of the screen faces one side of the trailer. A screened discharge conveyor and an oversize conveyor carried the screened and oversized material, respectively, away from the screen.

Screening apparatus

The hammers provide multiple impact points for debris, by providing impact points via tips at different radii from the axis of rotation of the hammer mill. The tips preferably are at substantially the same radius from the axis of rotation of the hammer about the hammer support shaft, so that efficiency is maintained even as the hammers lay back. The multiple impact points produce a more effective result, by partially sizing the debris on initial impact, before more precise final sizing in the grinding chamber. Angled surfaces on the hammer tips provide more effective shearing and tearing action than with conventional bar hammers. Wear patterns are such that grinding efficiency as the hammers wear down is maintained throughout the life of the replaceable tips. Preferably, the hammers weigh substantially more than conventional hammers, to provide a higher energy impact, and to reduce the tendency of the hammers to lay back.

Hammers for hammer mills

A tub grinder is disclosed in which material which is already sufficiently small in size, primarily being abrasive aggregate or earthen material, may be discharged from the receptacle to bypass the comminution apparatus and thus substantially reduce wear thereto. A portion of the cylindrical wall of the receptacle is provided with classifying openings, for example by providing a screened opening as a band around the receptacle. The classifying openings permit material which is already smaller than the size of the openings to fall therethrough, thereby bypassing the comminution apparatus. Preferably, a conveyor is positioned beneath the receptacle, to catch and discharge the material which falls through the screen or other classifying openings to a pile located away from the receptacle. Sidewalls positioned on either side of the receptacle stop any material which is flung out to the side, and redirect it down onto the conveyer. The apparatus may be advantageously mounted on a trailer, for towing from site to site. In such an arrangement, it is advantageous to provide an integrated, transportable system, in which the receptacle is moveable between an operating position and a transportation position.
